- CalijennExplorerI am pretty new here, have been nosing around a lot. I am liking it a lot and find quite a bit of people very helpful! i also have found a few who talk down on others which is a turn off but overall this seems to be a very helpful forum. :)
We own a 97 Coleman Santa Fe pop up and it has been used like crazy! Bought it back when we were kids pretty much and it held up to many poker parties back in the day. :) now, close to 20 years later, we have beyond outgrown it with our 2 little ones camping with us. We are in search of a htt now but would highly recommend a tent trailer to anyone wanting a step up from a tent. Ours has withstood crazy wind storms, snow, hail etc. never a leak or anything major in all these years. - KittykathExplorer IIWe have a new 38' fifth wheel parked for the season in a beautiful campground. It's my husband's pride and joy. However, I am in the market for a slightly used pop up that I (the mom) can drag around to places where the 5th doesn't dare go. I do miss the simplicity of pop up camping. I'll certainly need the wisdom of you folks when that time comes.
- jerem0621Explorer IIMost pop up users are on pop up times forum. It is very active and this sub forum really doesn't compare.
Thanks - RobertRyanExplorer

There are fewer pop-ups sold every year and in fact many dealers no longer carry them. To a large extent they have been replaced by the new lines of very small travel trailers that weigh less than 3,000 pounds
Folding Trailers have a steady clientele in Australia. Young couples with children tend to buy them. Small Caravans are a dying breed here. Lot of people are buying Apartments on Wheels.

http://novacaravans.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/IMG_9473.jpg - PopcornJunkieExplorerMy husband and I read the Folding Trailers section and posted here frequently when we bought our pop-up in 2004. We needed help, enjoyed reading postings from others, and the forum was fairly active at that time. I can't remember the last time we had a question, but the main reason I don't post here anymore is there's not much activity. I don't often looke at this forum to see if there's postings because it's so slow.
My husband doesn't even read any of the forums on this site anymore, but I still do. Don't post much on the other sites either, but I like reading ATC and General RVing.
From other comments, it looks like POP owners have found more active forums to participate in.
Jean - Wakita46ExplorerI actually find more info on Popupportal than anywhere else.
http://www.popupportal.com - beemerphile1ExplorerI love RV.net for general RV stuff and technical information.
But for pop up specific stuff you can't beat; Pop Up Explorer link.
I check in this pop up section once a day but check PUX several times a day. I like both forums because I participate in different types of camping and have two camping rigs. - allornothingExplorerHappynow
You might want to look at some of the highwall pups that are out there. Nice features with hardwall bathroom which is a must for DW in the middle of the night. I agree with bondebond, nothing beats sleeping under canvas with the screens open on a nice cool summer evening. Like you we tented for 16 years before moving to a pup and I love it. I just wish I could use it more.
BTW, the help I've found on here has been invaluable to me.
Happy Camping - happynowExplorerThanks Bondebond.
So appreciate your earlier comment that owning a PUP is not a gateway leading to the purchase of a TT/MH, believe you make a good point that applies to many PUP lovers. For us, based on our lifestyle, our "wish list" of future travel and love of the outdoors, suspect we will feel the same as you folks.
We love Tent camping; there is nothing quite like it and still go regularly. We spent July 13-19 in Acadia NP Maine. An outstanding trip. But even with all the comforts, this old body needs a dry comfy bed these days...like it or not. Went to a hotel to sleep the last night to recover the body for the 700 mile drive home.
We are "moving up" from a tent to a PUP/Hard Side PUP. For us,this is not about a full scale home but will enjoy some conveniences to enhance traveling and the outdoor experience. HS PUP is being considered as compromise for animal protection and inevitable rain. Since we enjoy moving often, the HS PUP ease of use is a huge bonus.
HS PUP concern is: will we miss the fresh open air feeling we so love about Tent camping?
Thinking we will not get the used option unless we are lucky or willing to wait longer as HS PUPs are not often on the market, much less one with the few absolutes we want. If we went with PUP, new is only way we will go.
In either case, we go back and forth on weather to get a bathroom in the unit or not. Chalet unit with bathroom dormer could be game changer, wish Chalet had a dealer near Maryland. Last I saw closest dealer is TX.
Beginning to think our "perfect" PUP unit would be 1/2 hard side...like there are not enough options out there now! Will keep searching... - bondebondExplorer

Please keep looking and asking. Buying new can be great with a few bumps. Buying used can be great with a few bumps. Either can be a hassle if not approached right. So ask away when you start to hone in on something specific.
Thanks to everyone posting here, the above responses explain a lot for someone learning about Folding Trailers...and the community. I too, have been puzzled why there is so little activity on this forum.
We are Tent Campers in search of a Hard side folding PUP unit or PUP in the future. Still deciding what unit we will purchase.
Grateful to have have received helpful answers to the specific questions I have posted on this forum. Had hoped seeing questions and experiences in this forum would help to guide us toward a final decision.
Was beginning to think we might be making a mistake to go this route. After reading this post I feel a little wiser, will continue to read and learn.
