Winter Traction

Go to HD or Lowes and buy a couple bags of sand or gravel and they'll load them for you. They'll come in handy if you do get stock.

Water barrels. 50 gal. Super easy. Put them in empty, tie them dowm, and then fill them while on the truck. My Uncle kept empty barrels on his truck all winter. Only filled them when snow, or ice was in the forecast.

In Michigan he'd probably have some busted water barrels and large ice cubes in his bed before too long. I guess you could dump some antifreeze in there?

Agree on the bags of sand from Lowes or Home Depot. Get them loaded in right over the axle.

Shovel some snow into the bed of the truck when it melts it just drains away!

Most everyone with 2WD pickups around here have 4 bags of sand in the beds. Put them just to the side of the wheel wells. If you do get stuck, they can be cut open and you can use the sand to aid with traction.

If you go to Lowe's or Home Depot, you will be able to either have someone from the store load them for you or just wheel them out to the truck and ask a younger person to help you.

Both Lowe's & Home Depot sell what they call "sand tubes" specifically for using in vehicles during the winter. They are about 10" round burlap bags, about 3' long and weigh either 40# or 60# and lay right against the wheel well over the axle. We carry 2 in our truck, when home in Idaho during the winter and it seems to do the trick.

Yup, I always put four 50lb bags of sand above & in front of the rear axle on our old 2WD Ram. Just don't load all the way to the back or it will get tail happy.

A dozen concrete blocks I have laying around on the tail. No light front.
