Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Without going into too much painful detail, we had a mishap several week-ends ago. While working with sand bag crews on the Mississippi River, the truck and camper fell into the flood waters as a road collapsed. Because of a number of issues dealing with the wrecker truck, we had to release the camper as the truck was reeled up over the bank. The good news is that the truck is as good as new after a thorough rinsing, inspection of brakes, etc. The bad news is that the camper was thoroughly drowned. A lot of people had far worse trouble than we did, so we consider ourselves lucky. The floods are ongoing as I write.

Our planned trip to Montana in June is called off. heh.

However, I have now convinced my dear Jane that its time to really update the TC. After drying for several days we pulled out the interior. Amazingly the Zolatone paint that I had applied last year is good as new after a cleaning.

Without burdening the TC family overmuch, I'd like to ask some advice other than don't park too near a flood :-).

My DW was overjoyed that I had a plan for the bathroom: a composting toilet developed by Nature's Head http://www.natureshead.net/. Our holding tank was practically unusable and there was no real grey water tank on the 67 Avion. Our plan is to rip out the bathroom and install one of these and converting the blackwater to a greywater tank. Any experience with this?

Finally, the roof. I admit that I have not really done the work I should have. Now, I need to remove the various sealants on the roof and repair it. We are also setting up for a solar installation. Any advice as to this?

Here's hoping I have posted the pictures correctly. And many thanks in advance for your advice.

The original ammonia fridge was one of the first items I got rid of. I have been using a small cooler (ice chest) since. Ice and cold food are the only things keeping me from going the full BLM 14day limit without resupply. The Engel, Nova Kool and Whynter are the current front runners for me.
300w of solar would be ideal but I'm reluctant to permanently mount anything on the roof due to snow and ice.

@Silver
you are Looking for a Fridge
Means you have no Fridge in there?
Or you want to replace yours?
I am looking for one.
The Dometic absorber series, you can not change the doorshinges.
You have to buy a right or a left one.
How does your door open?
On the c11 the friege is behind the backrest of the u shaped bench opesite of the bathroomdorr.
I am thinking, if i open it towardss the backrest, i can not walk arround, its harder to grab something when you are in the kitchen.
when i would open it towards the entrance door, you canยดt grab a beer when you are outside.
so c11 owners.
how does your fridge open?

Silver, on the fridge. I may have mentioned that I have a 2.4 CF Nova Kool that fits perfectly into the cabinet. It saved my marriage (just kidding). But, honestly, its an incredible fridge. We have around 200 watts on the roof and two AGM 31 batteries. We can stay out several days, at least. Everything stays nice and cool.

We really love our Engle 12v fridge/freezer. Only downside is that it is either a fridge or a freezer not both at the same time. And it is a chest style so it would not fit the same as a traditional wall mount. Hope this helps! It doesn't draw much at all. We have been running a single 12V battery for the past 5 years and only since adding the furnace have I worried about not having enough juice for the long haul.

I haven't seen any hummingbirds here but google says it's only 9hrs from San Francisco. I've even had the beach to myself for the last day or so.

I've got a little better service today so I'll give it another shot.
Arches NP

Red Rocks Canyon NCA

Six Mile Cove on Lake Mohave

70F and sunny. Good wind, clear water, primitive facilities, dumpster, mountain bike trails and occasionally cell service.

This place is a madhouse in the summer but a winter paradise for boondockers. Keep it hush hush.

BTW averaged 16.5mpg coming west at 70mph.

On the list for next season: more solar and a high efficiency 12v fridge.

Gents, you are very kind and I truly appreciate your good words. Nobody can understand firsthand the challenges of Avion camper rebuilds like those who have been down that road...

I do have an interior layout designed and partly framed up, but I think I will get the sleeping bags and ice chest and camp stove and take a small trip to get a feeling for traveling in Argo before the final work is done. Perhaps southern Arizona to walk around in the Sonoran desert and look at hummingbirds.

First I need to test the circuits and get the inner skin in. Then, on the road!

Beautiful setup D1, the Argo looks ready for battle. Perhaps put a few sleeping bags in there and enjoy it for a few before you embark on the interior.
Another secret paradise for fellow Avionistas. Six mile cove on Lake Mohave in NV. I didn't make it to Muley point yet, hopefully on the way back.
