I was hoping that sheepcamp would comment on Sarah:
When she was 6 weeks old his dog Sarah was put with 5 of the older, gentler momma sheep. Sarah then had no contact with anyone else for a long time... she came to think of herself as a sheep. When Doug feeds the sheep... Sarah eats some of their food. (He also feeds her dog food which she eats laying down)
While we were there she went to several places around the ranch and made a single wouff sound... then went on patrol all night. A goat was carried off by a Cougar that night a few miles away... Doug told us that Sarah has never lost one of her sheep to an animal. (There are more than 50 cougars known to be in the area.)
Sarah has been inside a building 2 times in her long life... both were trips to the vet when she was hit by a car. Doug said the vets staff had to open the doors and windows... Sarah was pretty strong smelling after all those years sleeping on the manure pile.
I wish that I could tell you her breed but I'd screw it up... french sounding name.
I like a gal that contributes to her keep... and isn't she beautiful.
