You really don't want to do an uneven job either. Ah, true true. Thanks again for the advice. I'll let you know how operation "Days of Thunder" goes. :)Re: Brake Squeal at 35mph gets louder as I slow down DSDP Don wrote: You won't successfully be able to get inside the drums (from the outside) . Will definitely warn the fam! They'll probably enjoy it :) as for the drums: I can see the brake shoes and the drum itself from behind the wheel (did you see the pics I posted?) Can't i sand a little in there? Let me know what you think. Slamming on the brakes would still be fun anyway ;)Re: Brake Squeal at 35mph gets louder as I slow down DSDP Don wrote: Question? Do you routinely use your exhasut brake, even in town/traffic. . Hey Don, thanks for the advice. I only use the air brakes on steep grades (of which the are plenty here in California. i never use them for regular driving. I do, however, try to feather the brakes when i'm rolling down a hill. I wonder if i managed to glaze them or the drum wall? I can reach the inside of the drum as you saw from the pics. I could try sanding the drum wall a bit? I can also try some brake clean (what do you think?) We roll again in a few days, i can try a few hard brakes thenRe: Brake Squeal at 35mph gets louder as I slow down 11178adm wrote: a high percentage of over the road trucks have the rear axle brake covers removed to prevent dust accumulation Looks like the backing is off here too. Take a look at the images at this link. The shoes look thick, but I could be wrong. Link with ImagesRe: Brake Squeal at 35mph gets louder as I slow downsounds like a trip to the mechanic is in order. I've replaced pads and rotors on a van, but those wheels don't weigh five-million lbs. There goes a grand ugh...Brake Squeal at 35mph gets louder as I slow downI'll be the first to say this is odd. I have 2009 Fleetwood Excursion DP with about 20K miles on it. I have air drum brakes that have been getting progressively louder over the last few months. The coach brakes perfectly fine - no issues there. But, starting at 35mph the brakes start to squeal. The squeal gets louder as I come to a stop. It's not a mildly annoying whine, it's a loud squeak. The coach is on a freightliner xcm power bridge chassis and I can't believe it needs brakes at only 20,000 miles (even though we've been up and down mountains quite a bit). I have tried turning the wheels and spraying the brakes. That seems to work, but only for about an hour or so. After that: squeal is back. Any thoughts?Re: $300 Exhaust Diffuser or Aftermarket Tip?I managed to get it off with PB Blaster! Took a can or so, but was able to get the job done! I also used an aftermarket TIP if found on amazon. $75 did the trick on that. It was a pretty easy job after finding the parts!Re: $300 Exhaust Diffuser or Aftermarket Tip? Twomed wrote: Lots of penetrating oil... saw a slot, twist it out. Hard work but remember you are saving $120 an hour. :) :) i wonder how long surgery on my shredded hands will cost per hour :D I just hit it with PBBlaster and will do so again throughout the next day or so. Kidding aside, i really don't want to do any sawing (i'm pretty sure the folks in the RV park won't take too kindly to that!) Thanks for exhaust parts. I'll see what i find there.Re: Condensation in slide corner GPWayne wrote: Had the same problem with bedroom slide. Used water hose, no leak. Moved MH to covered storage, still had water in the closet(overnight). Used my inspection camera through the light fixture hole and found condensation on the closet roof. Got a small dehumidifier at Wally World, problem solved. Have added insulation put still use the dehumidifier. That keeps the MH fresh and not like an owl's nest. Moved back outside, still no problem. It's been several days with no rain, and air continues to condense in that corner. So it's definitely not a leak. I'll grab a dehumidifier and call it "not an issue" Thanks all!$300 Exhaust Diffuser or Aftermarket Tip?The Exhaust tip on my DP is rusted- in fact, the whole exhaust extension is rusted. I got the exhaust extension from fleetwood and am deep into the replacement work (the old pipe broke inside the muffler collar and getting that out is going to be fun since it's corroded. Any suggestions there would be great!) As for the diffuser, the exhaust diffuser from freightliner is $300. It seems to me I should be able to use any 4" exhaust tip as long as it turns down after the rear bumper. I'm quite certain I haven't seen my exhaust diffuser on any other cummins ISC based MH so I doubt it's specific to my engine. Any thoughts?
