It is at around 7200 ft and great scenery. Depending on where you are in tx either a 1 or 2 day drive. We found that's LOTS of Texans call this home in the summer.Re: Indiana to Mt. RushmoreI am going to offer an alternative route to the black hills. Go west on I-80 to Iowa City then north on 380 to Waterloo. Then take hiway 20 all across Iowa and Nebraska. It is 4 lane in Iowa and 2 lane in Nebraska. The Nebraska road is straight; level and pretty wide. Go west to Chadron then go north to the Black Hills. We have done this 3 times and much nicer road than the interstate. This way you see the sand hill area of Nebraska. Lots of City camping along 20 in most of the small towns. See the Black hills (lots of camping on the south end). Then if you want to just go home take 90 across SD, MN. We've done the Black hills numerous times in the last 40 years as used to live in N. Ill. Whatever you do, don't miss Crazy Horse in the hills.Re: Internet CostsI have some recent experience with Verizon and this issue. We currently have Verizon with the MIFI and ours cost us $70 per phone per month. (2 phones). We signed up for the FMCA new discounted plan for Verizon for $50 per month for 27 gig. Spent about 1/2 hr with the VZ operator to learn that we couldn't cancel our $70/ month and add the FMCA special She said we could get the $50/month deal but it would be ontop of our current plan. We just changed phone last November and purchased them so we would not be on any long term plan. I asked if we dropped Verizon could we then get the FMCA wireless plan. She said that could work. My expectations from Verizon are extremely low; and they met them.Re: Towing a Ford EdgeTowed a 2008 Edge for three years no issues. Been towing an 2011 Edge since brand new. They tow great with no issues except batteries. You will probably need a charge wire not go with. We tow with Blue ox and breaking system. Have total of 40,000 tow miles. Luv the Edge and was disappointed to see the 2019 are not towable.Re: Towing through Yellowstone.Agree strongly with above post of taking 16 and NOT 14. I posted before on 14 and no fun at all. Have been through the park twice with 40'DP with Ford Edge toad and no problems at all. Went through the middle of the park and was slow with the wildlife but just sat back and enjoyed the trip. There are a couple of good campgrounds in W. Yellowstone.Re: Red River, NM to Ruidoso, NM RoutesJust did the trip Thursday into Ruidoso with 40'DP and toad. Came down 54 from Santa Rosa to Carrizozo then 380 to 37. Had no issues except there are couple of steep climbs coming in on 37. I just took it slow. Wanted to spend couple of weeks here before heading to Round Rock, TXRe: Wind Cave, SD to Ft. Robinson, Crawford, NEMike: have done the 385 trip both ways and is a very good road with good shoulders. Have not done 71 so cannot comment. We stopped at Ft Robinson last year and did two days there as there is lots of history with the fort. Have been to the Black Hills 5-10 times so lots to do there. One suggestion would be I see you are from Ohio and I would look at coming out hiway 20 instead of running interstate. I don't know how fast you run but I love running 20 instead of 90 or 80.Refridgerator in BirminghamSo here's my dilemma. Got to Birmingham AL this afternoon and my Dometic fridge stopped. It went out 8 years ago and got fixed. Decided if it happened again would go residential route. But wasn't supposed to start at the beginning of 6 month trip and 700 mi from home. I have 4 house batteries so enough power but to not have inverter. The original owner only got one of the small 400 watt ones. So my question is does anyone know someone in the area that could: fix my unit or install a 1000 or 2000 watt inverter?Re: Route 67 in ArkansasTake 67 instead of the interstate. It is shorter and much better road in my opinion. This is the way we travel from Texas to northern Ill at least twice a year. HW 67 north of Little Rock is a bumpy the first 17 miles on 67 (road joints) but gets smooth the rest of the way. It's almost all 4 lane and the 2 lane is wide with good shoulders. You can run all the way on 67 to 255 or cut east at Poplar Bluff to Sikeston and catch on to 55 and go north. HW 67 is much more scenic and relaxed than 55.Re: Austin Texas by passskline; I have done it 3 or 4 times and I thing I got charged for 4 axle which made it about $17. I am 40 dutch star with toad. The major issue is whether you go the entire route from Georgetown to Sequin. When going south I also get off at 45 to 35 which cuts off the new and pricey stretch. Going north I go to San Marcos catch 45 to 130 to go north. Also going north or south there are electronic signs that give the travel time taking 35 versus 130. At many times of the day it is faster to take 35 than 130. I know live around Austin and go by the signs every day.
