I am upgrading from a 15 x 6 Steelie White RV wheel; to an alloy. I am leaning towards a single machined piece like this in a 16x7; and will use a 225 width radial tire. Just a random style example My question to those who upgraded. I have one inch clearance at the outside of the tire and the fenderwell of my Fiver; but have 3 inches clearence from the inside of the tire surface to the shackle. I see these wheels in -8, -16 and -25 MM offset. Will that not push the outside closer to the outside and cause rubbing? Did a Zero offset allow ample clearence for you who upgraded? Any suggestions?Re: source for new trailer alloy wheels and tiresLooks like I have found a good deal on wheels. Discount charges taxes if purchased online, and their installation charges are insane. (I have local tire shop that does all of my mounting) Now for tires.. Marathons are made in China these days. any suggestions on an American made tire? Michelins are my choice for my Duramax, but would you belive I had to have 2 replaced within one year for migrating thread cap? (Loadrange E..not too uncommon) I need a tire in excess of 2500LBS, and will upgrade to a 16 from a 15. Comments?source for new trailer alloy wheels and tiresmy fiver tires are over 5 years old and I am getting a few rust spots due to powdercoat cracks. any good suggestions for an online retailer of wheels and tires?Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. jlaustin wrote: Hitch/Generator Crane Recent discussion about using pickup cranes to lift gennies, etc., inspired me to build a crane mounted in my RV barn to lift my hitch off the pickup. John I back my 5th wheel into place; and pull the pins that hold it to the bed. Then, the DW elevates the Fiver legs; and I pry the hitch out of the rails. I store the hitch attached to the Fiver. Re installation is a tad more difficult; but I can drop the hitch in place and in 2 or 3 mins its back in place an pinned. BUT; I do like the idea of AC winching a Gen set out of the truck. Picking mine off the floor and placing it on a 40 inch tall bench earned me a nice little operation..Re: New Dometic Recall Initiated March 11, 2008Would someone post the part number for the older and lower amperage AC heater? I will be scheduling my recall visit and I understand the later higher amperage heater may contribute to the coil failure. I have a Dometic RM 2652. Thank in advance ElvisRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. Elvis-N-Amy in Texas wrote: OldFordMan; MrWizard. Thank you. I have a 15A to 20 A adaptor I will try this afternoon. If everything in the RV is "Happy" I will fab in a 20 Amp outlet and then finish it's break in. If there is information for this genset in this thread; shoot me a link. I do have a scope I can put on the genset to see how "dirty" it is. I assume all non inverter gen sets are a tad noisy BTW; as was posted earlier; it was only about 1\2 full of oil; and would not start. As always; a big thanx. An odd observation. I used a 15 to 20 Amp adaptor to test this genset. If seemed to run my 15K AC AND microwave with no issues. (Run voltage was staying at 125 VAC) I swapped the dual 15 amp plug for a single 20 amp. I connected the two legs in the same manner and took the extra step to replace the wire at the junction box under the dust cover from 14 gauge to 10 gauge. Now the Micro will not start but the AC does. Measuring from hot to neutral = 125 VAC, Neutral to ground 60 VAC; ground to hot = 65 VAC So; I have seen a post concerning this earlier on a 1200 watt genset. "neutral on the generator is not bonded to ground when measuring AC voltage you will measure 120 from neutral to hot and aprox 60 volts AC between neutral and ground OR hot and ground this is normal for the generator " Is this normal? I assume these are 60 VAC windings but in phase. Thanks as usual. ElvisRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.OldFordMan; MrWizard. Thank you. I have a 15A to 20 A adaptor I will try this afternoon. It is badged as a "UST 3500 watt" LINK We intend to have it perform double duty; With our 5th wheel; and as AC backup for the home. The Specs rate is at 26.7 amps at 125V It has a one dual outlet 15 amp outlet. It does not have a 220 outlet. It does not have a switch to switch to 220 (As there is no 220 outlet; that would be a good thing to leave off ;) A quick scan of the wireing diagram and a quick disassembly shows there is only one winding output connected to the duplex outlet. The duplex outlet "bus bars" are bridged (Both outlets are fed from only one generator leg) The wiring diagram Shows 2 windings; one I can visibly trace to the duplex outlet and one may connect to a capacitor (I did not completely unbolt it to verify it) It seems to be relatively quite; but will require sound deadening modifications if I take it camping. My questions are as follows: Any feedback \ experience with this genset? Anyone successfully powered a 13,500 Coleman RV AC? Is this actually a "ganged" dual winding or a single winding. Any other feedback? As usual; thanks for assistance. ElvisRe: Diesel vs gas......................I have owned many trucks, but only one diesel. We selected our 1st Fiver based on what me 5.3 GMC could tow; and set my limit to a 25 foot low profile. My 2001 SB EC "Work Truck" (3.73, and a posi) towed fell on the flats. As the previous poster noted; it's the hills that get you. I cam across a great deal on a 2003 GMC 2500HD in South Texas (It was not 4WD and the dealer was hot to get rid of it) Bone stock the truck would tow my 25 foot Fiver like it was not even there. The addition of a Edge tuner; modified stock airbox with cold air induction and Bilstien shocks; its capabilities were transformed. Now; I have a truck that rides very well; get 21 to 22 unloaded and 17 to 14 loaded and can run down a Mustang on the high level tunes. My wife and I are discussing trading in her car for a diesel sedan. The Toyota in my signature has a "new" used 2.4 turbo Diesel engine from Japan sitting in the workshop. Diesels rule in my opinion; and as technology marches on they just get better and better. My honest experience.
