Way too much negative feedback on the current Costco Interstate batteries for me to even consider them right now. So far so good on the Duracell's. I think I paid around $87ea for the Duracells at Sam's. I've been off this board for a year or so. But, back then, NOBODY would consider buying Duracell 6v batteries. They did not even last one year! And everybody was buying Interstate. What happened???Re: Hard wired surge protector time2roll wrote: Four large wire nuts and the box is bypassed. Just leave some slack in the wire. But there are very few posts of random failures. Far more good reports of the protector saving the RV. Exactly. There is no need to plan "what if" it breaks! Just four wire nuts and you are good to go. And even then, the genny will still work. And maybe you have an inverter and batteries. I would just go about my trip as if I was dry camping until I could get the unit replaced.Re: Downsizing is not easySorry. Can't help. But, why downsize? We have a 35' tiffin. We are looking to retire in a couple years. I am looking to buy another moho. I want a 36' DP. My wife is saying maybe downsize to a 28-30 foot. I don't get it! We are going to be spending more time than ever in the rig, and she wants to go smaller? I can't see that much difference in driving between a 30' and a 36'. Why downsize?Atwood levelorsMy 2008 Tiffin Allegro Open Road came with Atwood levelegs electric leveling jacks. Atwood sold to Dometic. And they no longer make the jacks or parts for the jacks. I need a new control module. Somebody recommended getting my module repaired, but the shop says that my problem (can't program what level is anymore!) requires a new micro chip. And that can't be repaired. Looking for any suggestions. The only suggestion so far is to go buy HWH. That is pricey...Re: Your Opinion -- Washer/Dryer?Interesting the different extremes of opinions. We have never had a W/D. And I hate laundromats. But, we currently use them. I had never thought of a wash and fold. But, I will be using them from now on. We are shopping for our next DP. Probably a Newmar Ventana. It will have a W/D (separates). I cant possible see how or why you need that much extra storage. Cut down on the amount of **** so that you can keep the W/D. We will be able to do small loads if we want to. Or, use the wash and fold if it has been more than a couple of days. Options. I like to have options. Good luck.Re: Trading in a Fifth Wheel for a Class A mtofell1 wrote: I'm eyeing the same change with the biggest reason being the driving experience. Once you arrive somewhere it's hard to beat the functionality of the 5th wheel floor plan. But, wife and kids HATE just sitting in the truck. Being able to sit at a table or on a couch, or just look out the huge front window is just such a different experience. Lots of good info here for sure. One thing I'd add is that the newer gas coaches seem to be a lot better than the older ones in terms of power. In 2016 the Ford F53 chassis went to a 6spd tranny which gets great reviews. Of course, the 5K towing capacity is very limiting. Also, finding a vehicle that can be flat towed is a challenge. The only two with auto-trannys I've found are a Chevy Equinox and Ford Edge (V6 only). And that is why we moved from a travel trailer to a moho. "In a motorhome, the vacation starts the minute you leave your driveway. In a trailer or a 5th wheel, the vacation does not start until you arrive at your destination." I had the largest back seat in my truck that you could get. Large enough for three grown men! But, not large enough for my three small kids to sit next to each other! They were always picking a fight with each other. I used to joke that when I looked in my rear view mirror, what I saw most often was my wife's backside as she was turned around settling some fiasco going on in the backseat! We went moho and will never go back. We are looking at getting rid of our Class A with bunks as the kids have outgrown them. Good luck!Re: Winnobago horror in the hiding spots . wires. 1968mooney wrote: TNGW1500SE wrote: There's not a trailer/RV out there that I'd consider "built well" unless you get up above a half million. The manufactures all skimp on quality and throw them together. They want less weight so everyone can tow it and lower costs to increase profits. You end up buying a Styrofoam cooler on wheels with a few sticks here and there supporting it in the showroom. Watch this video and keep in mind this is what the manufacturer posts on YouTube to show people how they build RV's. I think they must add amphetamines to the employees coffee or beat them. Jayco Build So your advise is, unless you have 1/2 million to spend, find something else to do other than RVing? That would not be my advice. My advice would be unless you are handy with tools, or have the money to hire somebody to fix every little thing that goes wrong, you should find something else to do other than RVing. Cost of the RV has nothing to do with it. I was just helping fix broken stuff in a $1.1m Newmar King Aire yesterday!Re: 1989 Class A,,,question on value :) MrWizard wrote: How did this go from an 89 Winnie To one year old rentals ? They may sell some rentals off every year, and buy more replacements for next season, but not one year old, they would be taking a loss on each unit Can't stay in business that way They don't take a loss on each unit. My buddy was the service Manager at El Monte RV. One of the largest rental places here in So CA. They have huge buying power with Fleetwood. They can sell a one year old unit with 40-50,000 miles on it for more than they paid Fleetwood to buy the unit brand new. That is the business. Buy the unit at a low price. Rent it and make $20-30k on the rental income. Then sell it off 12-15 months later for more than you paid for it. and then buy a new rig for less than you got for the old rig. They will keep the rig longer. But only if it is super clean and low miles. Oh...and $15k is way too much for that class C. Good luck.Re: reupholster or buy new captain chairs is the questionMake sure to replace the butt cushions!Re: Fastening a cable to a roofI covered the entire run of cable with Eternabond tape. Even went over the spots where the cable went through the roof.
