I will give you an update after the repairs have been made, again thanks for your advice, he read each of your responses,Re: Transmission Drain Plug - Add On - Anyone done thisI have the transmission oil changed at 40K intervals in my 2005 Dodge 2500. they just drain the oil, change the filters and adjust the bands as necessary so far at 95K it still runs good and shifts good, guess I will continue that schedule as long as I own the truck, pulling that trailer gives the transmission oil a work out, it needs to be changed as you would any hard working oil. new oil and filters are much cheaper than a new transmission, if I can avoid it.Re: 2004 Ford pickup 5.4 liter motor tick noiseThanks for all responses. I passed them along to my son, he will just have to determine how much that small tick noise is bothering him and how much he is willing to spend to correct it. Thanks again for your input,2004 Ford pickup 5.4 liter motor tick noisethe motor on my son's 2004 Ford pickup, 5.4 liter motor has started making a ticking noise after it's warmed up, 94,000 miles, truck is in excellent condition other than this minor ticking noise. you can hear the noise at idle, but not when driving down the road. he uses Ford oil filters and Ford oil 5W20. most of you guys that ever owned a truck this model have probably traded them off for newer trucks by now. but, do you ever remember having a motor tick with your 5.4 liter Ford motor. if so, what is the cure, is it a valve, injector, it does not miss, so I would not think it was a plug loose. I really do not know what to tell him to do, as he likes to have his vehicles in top condition. he only drives the truck approximately 8,000 per year. has the oil changed at 6 months or 4,000 mile intervals. reason I ask here, he has ask the dealership, local repair shop and one or two others, who should know about this model motor, has gotten a different answer from each; bad plugs, loose or worn timing chain, flywheel loose, coil packs bad, etc: Thanks for any suggestions, I suggested changing the oil, use Ford filter and 5w20 oil, but replace one qt of oil, takes 7 qts (I think) with one quart of Lucas oil stabilizer, might be worth a try, before letting some one tear into this motor, again, any suggestions are appreciated!Re: stuck on wet grassnorthwest, I understand the issue, I have a 2005 dodge diesel extra cab 2x4, with that diesel engine, we do not need to get off the pavement if the ground is wet, do not remember how much that engine weighs, but the front will go down quick. my truck has positive traction, both back wheels will pull, how I know is when the rear tires are a bit slick, if the pavement is wet you give it too much fuel and the rear will try to get sideways in a heart beat. nice truck, you just have to know its limitations, good fuel mileage, do you have tow hooks on the front, if not you need to get a set, these trucks should never have been allowed to leave the factory without tow hooks. I have Michelins highway tread tires, ride and drive good, but not mud tires by any stretch.Re: New Big Dog on the blockmy old dodge is a 2005 model, so anything less than 10 years old is new technology to me. I must have picked up the wrong link, got my information all wrong, the article was in the February 2016 Popular Mechanics article: The truck that is almost as strong as a Dung Beetle 2016 Ford F-450 Super Duty all I know is what the article said, "is the most powerful pickup you can buy" page 73 ??????????? but they may have lied, the companies are always trying to up-man-ship the other brands. surely PM would have checked out the numbers before printingNew Big Dog on the blockhttp://www.motortrend.com/news/2015-ford-f-450-super-duty-platinum-first-test/ article in Motor Trend this month. I might trade my old Dodge for this thing. wow, $75K tow 31,200 that should handle my little Jayco, at least I would look good driving it around,Re: 2013 Ram batterythey should last longer than that, I have a 2005 model dodge diesel and I just installed my third set, so who knows. main thing, when you hit that starter you want it to spin, takes some power to turn it over on a cold morning up here in KY.Re: Battery Load TesterI did not mention the battery brand I bought as I did not want to start a battery war. but as most know the battery brand Autozone sells is Duralast I when with that brand before because they were made by Johnson Controls in the USA. however, I am not so sure Johnson Controls still makes the Duralast battery brand in the USA I tried to look it up buy found no current data, all info I found was old 2009 back. I do try to buy USA made items when I can, even if they cost a bit more, might save some old boy or girls job.
