MUST take into account: length, height, weight, and propane. PREFER take into account traffic and work offline (except for traffic.) Suggestions?Re: slide topper replacement ACE 30.1 2016Thanks for your replies. The linked video is one of the six I had watched. The end cap blocks access to the end of the channel in the roller.slide topper replacement ACE 30.1 2016Anybody have experience with replacing the slide toppers? It is past time to replace our bedroom slide topper. The fabric is disintegrating. Duct tape helped for a while...) I assume that the livingroom slide topper must be about due as well. I watched several YouTube videos and it seemed DIY doable. So I ordered replacement fabric from Toogh Tops. Looks great. First issue: I've now watched six different how-to videos. All of them say to turn the roller unwrapping all the fabric until the channel (that the fabric edge slides into) is at the top (except one that says bottom) and then put cotter pn or screwdriver or awl through the hole to keep the spring from rewinding. On mine the is no hole to stick anything through. (The sixth video actually says, after saying stick it through the hole, that tehirs didn't have a hole so the drilled their own. I don't think I'm confident enough about what I would be drilling through to do that.) One video gives an alternate method, removing the roller and letting the topper hang down the side, then sliding the roller off the fabric. Although that will be more complicated and more effort, I'd do it except that the topper won't hang down very far. It will mean manuvering the 7 foot long roller over my head while sliding it off, or having more than two people up ladders to slide it off. I think that method works better for toppers for slides that go out more than 18"! Second issue: All the videos say to slide the old fabric out and new fabric in, and show the end of the channel in the roller being clear of the endcap/bracket but it is not on mine. There is less than an inch clearance from the end of the channel to the endcap. I have ordered a small rachet driver with short heads that I hope will allow me to remove the screw in the end of the channel. (See note on further complication below.) Even if I get the screw out, I'm concerned about etting the new fabric around the bend and into the channel. Third (lesser) issue: All of the videos refer to and/or show the screws (locking the fabric in place in the channel on the side of the coach, and closing off the end of the channel in the rioller) as either being a Phillips head or taking a hex key. Mine need a square drive. I have only tried the bedroom lide topper but it certainly appears that all the same issues will apply to the livingroom slide topper - and be harder to surmount.Re: Iron Mountain Road - Route 16A in Custer State Park SDWe went, by the way, it it was not even hard.Thor ACE 30.1 curtain disintegration/likely other models tooWe recently traveled to Oregon (for the eclipse, hooray!) and had occasion for the first time in several months to actually look at the curtain that closes off the windshield and cab windows. The backing (white, facing out) is in shreds. It falls apart at a touch. Apparently the material has been broken down by sun exposure. At home the coach is parked facing roughly south. Coach is a 2016 ACE 30.1 which purchased new less than a year ago. I'm sure the curtains are the same on other ACE models, and I would be surprised if the same curtains aren't used in at least some other lines. Anybody else run into this? We are taking it to the dealer for replacement - but of course we have no expectation that the replacement curtains will hold up any better.Re: Is this even possible? But Merideth Woods is 112 miles from where we need to go.Re: Is this even possible? December in New England? But still, somebody seems to be doing it. There are a few campgrounds open.Is this even possible? December in New England? The way various things are aligning this year, we need to be in the Boston area in late November and coastal Maine in late December. For one or the other we'd probably fly, but for both we'd rather travel overland. In between we would happily stay in Western Mass. We live on the West Coast and would cross by a southern route. No worries there, we've done it before, and have family in the South so that's all good. But most (all?) of the campgrounds I'm finding open in December have no hookups. That's fine for a night or two, but dry camping for a month doesn't appeal. Are there any places with full hookups all winter? We'll probably have to buy propane repeatedly is that going to be a problem? What about roads? I know no one can forecast the weather with specificity six months ahead, but is this even plausible? We would plan to arrive at each stop a couple of days before we really need to to allow for weather delays, but still. Am I a fool for even considering it? Overly anxious?Replacing converter/charger, adding inverter and moreI have a 2016 Thor ACE 30.1. As I've been typing this I realize that I'm dealing with pretty much the same set of issues with a communications vehicle I oversee for my county's Office of Emergency Services. For a whole lot of reasons I want AC power (clean sine wave) available boondocking without running generator, much greater stored power in batteries, and the ability to charge those batteries more rapidly (with generator or shore power. I do not intend to run air conditioner on inverter, but I do want to be able to run microwave or hair dryer as well as TVs and etc. I know there are charger/inverter units which also handle the transfer of AC load to generator or shore power to inverter and back, and charge batteries at a higher rate. But I don't know if any of them will properly charge LiFePO4 batteries. Nor do I know if any of them will also manage charging from solar panels. Recommendations? Ideally I'd like to manage everything in one place, but two units would be better than three or four, or more! And I'm not sure what to do about the chassis battery, which I would probably not replace with LiFePO4 battery. Since the updated house system would not optimally charge the chassis battery (and vice versa, the F53 chassis electrical system would not optimally charge the house battery,) I've thinking maybe I should just make them independent.
