All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsThousand Trails MembershipLooking for guidance ... We recently sold our 5th Wheel and without an RV for the first time in 20 years ... We are not sure if/when we will get a new one and I contacted TT regarding our membership we've had since 1997. They advised I do not have a suspension clause and my only options are to sell/transfer or cancel. We have had a lot of enjoyment out of TT over the years and had hoped to hang on to it but appears we cannot. (I guess we could pay the annual dues and just not use it but that does not seem practical) Are there any recommendations on sites to sell the membership? I used RVTrader when we sold the RV but haven't looked into selling a "membership" Thanks for your advise ...Re: Route 66Thousand Trails monthly publication just did an extensive article in this month's magazine that you may want to track down a copy of. Gave ALOT of points of interest by every state along Route 66.Re: Jacking for a flat tire? popeyemth wrote: I stack my leveling blocks on my trailer not a 5th wheel but tandem axles are pretty similar. +1 Only had to do it once in over 15 years of RVing thankfully, and now we have GSRA so they can do it next time if it happens :) I just used the Lego blocks pulling the good wheel up on them lifting the flat to change it ... Just make sure you are high enough to mount the spareRe: Good Sam DisappointmentJust an update ... I spoke to Frank with GSRA and first I must compliment him on his timely & professional response. We spoke in regards to the incident and to his credit with out making excuses he said we failed to receive the service we should have. He will take steps to learn from our mishap and make adjustments where necessary going forward in hopes of preventing a reoccurrence for me or any other GSRA member. He took it even a step further to ensure we were "made whole" for our out-of-pocket expenses and additional good will. I am certainly pleased with the outcome and as I stated in my original post I just wanted to learn from the incident, not bash GSRA and I fully respect their company even more so now because of the matter in which my concerns were addressed. Thanks FrankRe: Good Sam Disappointment GSRoadsideAssistance wrote: Thank you for the post, MdKamper. My name is Frank and I am a member of the Good Sam Roadside Assistance Headquarters Team. I will contact you, and I look forward to speaking with you. Turning it over to a live person means their responsibility for it is over. And since you couldn't be there, shop owner/employee is the next best thing. Not the same thing as you calling a tow truck and arranging delivery to a closed facility. In that case, YOU are the responsible party. This incident does point up a rather surprising benefit of a membership in this service- coverage for the vehicle no matter who's driving it/ involved in the breakdown/accident. Triple A (what I have) coverage is strictly for named parties. They won't tow a rig AT ALL unless the covered person is there- and at both ends. Valid point, to clarify we were willing to follow the tow truck to the body shop in another vehicle and complete the body shop's drop off form.Good Sam DisappointmentOk, not a first time poster so don't jump on me and this isn't a hate GSRA as I will keep them for the original reason I purchased the contract of towing my RV/Tow Vehicle if/when we break down while traveling. But on Sunday, May 25th my son was involved in an accident requiring the vehicle (registered to me) to be towed. Contacting GSRA we advised them we wanted it towed to a local body shop approximately 3 miles from the scene of the accident. The operator advised they were unable to do that because the shop was closed. Had it been open they stated they could. My question to her was it was a SUNDAY everything was closed. I asked her what options they suggested and she replied they could tow it to a Goodyear service center also approximately 3 miles. The problem was that's a mechanical shop, not a body shop and therefore would do me no good. Long story short, just paid for the tow myself out of pocket to take it to the body shop where the driver left it in the receiving parking lot provided at the body shop for just such incidents. Part of me understands GSRA policy about the shop being closed, but obviously this is going to happen at times, such as nights & weekends, when the necessary repair facilities are closed. What about 3AM when nothing is open, does GSRA deny service then because everyone is closed? I found it ridiculous that they were only willing to tow it to a facility that was OPEN but did not offer the needed services to repair the vehicle. Has anyone ever had a vehicle towed at 3AM (or such), did they tow you to a closed facility? Just curious as when we travel we do alot of late night / Sunday travel. Halmfamily wrote: I would think it would be less expensive to drive your truck the limited amount of miles you will be driving. By the time you factor in lease costs, insurance for both vehicles, registration for both vehicles, maintenance for both vehicles, etc. Granted its less expensive to fuel a car and easier to get around in some areas. I could not justify the expense of the second vehicle. Good luck and enjoy your new snow birding home. I have to agree with the above ... and if you really need a car on a limited basis you may want to see if Zip Car is available in the area. Traditionally they are located more in larger city areas but offer a great alternative to rental cars. With Zip Car you rent by the hour, typically $8-$12 an hour depending on model but includes Gas, Insurance & tolls. We find it very convenient to use.
