I think that normally an exhaust leak would sound when that cylinder exhausted and Change in frequency with RPM. The should didn't seem to change in frequency...just intensity. But it could be some other type of air leak, perhaps vacuum leak? Does anyone know if you can lock the transmission in overdrive if you select 3rd gear? That would reduce fluid temps on a long hill.Re: 2006 Ford E450 Transmission issueHi Chum Lee, The Coolant tank for the radiator has the correct amount of antifreeze solution and the engine temp gauge did not increase, just stays at it normal operating level. The sound increases (gets louder) with added accelerator pressure and decreases when accelerator is released (removing my foot). In the past if heat started to increase the fan would come on but it was a set frequency that did not change with speed or engine power demand. We turned off the air-conditioner, did not use defrost and the sound still occurs. It sounds almost like liquid spraying (Shhhhhh), but there isn't any evidence of any oil, antifreeze, or transmission fluid. No leaks. If I pull over to check it out the sound stops so I can't determine where its coming from. I am stumped. Don't feel I have enough information to communicate to the garage.Re: 2006 Ford E450 Transmission issueOk, My ongoing problem may not be the transmission. I am learning more as I search the internet. 1. The temp sensor inside the transmission is to control cold (0 degrees C or below) shifting patterns. So that is probably not a problem. 2. Engine coolant temp sensor is what is used to change voltage to the PCM (power train control module) 3. The Tow/Haul light will blink on/off to indicate a transmission fault. I did not noticed it blinking during our trip. However, I didn't know to look at it. 4. The transmission works correctly, the engine runs ok. Just have this weird sound that occurs after pulling a long hill when the transmission has shifted down. Then we start getting a Shhhhh noise that increases with throttle pressure and stops when coasting. After stopping, the noise goes away. So at this time I am flummoxed. No clue to what is causing my issue and not enough info to help diagnose a problem. Thanks for your inputs. RolinRe: 2006 Ford E450 Transmission issueI don't have a temp gauge and my older Scan Gauge does not have transmission temperature as a display option. I am working to see if I can upgrade. The only indication that the transmission was hot was that the cooling fan was cycling on and when leaving after lunch it didn't seem to shift correctly. When pulling onto the freeway there was no power, it was like in a lower gear and would not accelerate. Like the engine and transmission said...we are going on strike. Had this happen to another Motor home pulling out of Death Valley on the West side, hilly, curvy and hot. Engine was not over heated. But transmission was not happy. That is my only reference point. I don't understand exactly what Tow/haul does. I try to use it most of the time, but was experimenting to see what seemed to keep the transmission happy so we could limp home.Re: 2006 Ford E450 Transmission issueThanks for the responses. I believe that the 2006 E450 transmission has a temperature sensor. It is inside and you have to drop the pan and remove the filter to access it. Also the sensor will activate an electric fan in front of the radiator if the transmission oil gets too hot because there are oil cooling coils in front of or built into the radiator. If you can confirm or correct my information please do. I have a scan gauge and have checked for any codes and there are none. This is probably not as complete a test as a Ford garage can run. I never had a Check Engine light come on during the course of our trip. To minimize the problem during the last half of our trip we did not run the airconditioner or defroster. We did not use Tow/Haul and tried to keep the transmission locked in overdrive as much as possible...just let it slow down on the hills but would shift down if we got below 45mph. I am trying to gather as much information as possible before I schedule an appointment with the local garage (would like to save time and money if possible). Thanks, Rolin2006 Ford E450 Transmission issueTraveling over the Rocky Mts in 100 degree heat the transmission fan ran occasionally. After a stop for lunch the transmission ran when we started up and went into limp mode when we tried to accelerate onto the freeway. It recovered but acted strange for a bit. The next day we had it serviced, flushed, new fluids. Seemed to work ok. On the way home we noticed after a long pull it made a Shhhhhh sound that would get louder, but stop when you let off of the gas. If we stopped for a short time everything worked ok. Noticed that the transmission fan never came on anymore. Anyone had this sort of problem? I think maybe the temperature sensor is bad. RolinRe: Best Route Frm Iowa I80 to New Brunswick, Class C+toadMatt_Colie, That is an interesting route. I will plug it into our streets and trips to see if I can visualize how this works. At my age I need to minimize any surprises. I have had to make 30 mile recovers because of a wrong exit (Cleveland is my nemesis). Haven't taken this route for about 15 years. I am trying to get my overnight locations preplanned so we know where we will stop each night. I know that often plan B has to be added, but at least we have a plan A to start with ;-). Thanks RolinRe: Best Route Frm Iowa I80 to New Brunswick, Class C+toadDturm and Germania, Thank you very much for your insights. I will order two I-Pass from Illinois and put one in the foil baggy thing. I don't believe that we will need it for the toad but just in case we want to do some sight seeing on the return trip. It is nice to know that you only need one I-Pass for the motorhome when towing a toad. I was a bit nervous about how this would work...didn't want a big fine to greet us after our trip. Matt_Colie, I totally agree with you about avoiding the Megoplis. Before Covid (to avoid toll roads) we would enter Canada at Sault Ste Marie, exit at Corwall into New York, across Vermont, New Hampshire into Maine. Some beautiful country, but slow and required multiple Canada/USA boarder crossings to get to Nova Scotia. Getting older and this year looking for the most fuel efficient, speediest, and least stressful/tiring route. We have a time constraint on the Eastward route. Plan to take our time on the return trip and do some sight seeing (visit some national parks)Best Route Frm Iowa I80 to New Brunswick, Class C+toadIt has been a long time since we traveled toll roads. Plus we have never done this with MH and Toad. I understand that you need a transponder for both the MH and Toad. We are out of state so not sure which state would be best to purchase the transponder from. NY seems to have a MH plan but that may only be for in-state persons. Is it worth the trouble/time/fuel to find ways around toll roads? Would it be prudent to get transponders just incase you had to take a toll road for a short distance. Is a Canadian route reasonable. Canadian fuel price minus currency conversion and tolls? I was hoping someone out there has done this and might have some suggestions. Regards, RolinRe: Upgrading 2007 Aspect 26A Rearview Camera systemUpdate on the Voyager camera / Monitor replacement on our 2007 Aspect 26A: Camera is finally installed. The old monitor is color now that I have a color camera. It took some time to figure out the wiring. Used TadiBrothers camera. Their technical support is not much help...had to figure it out myself. There are 4 wires and a braided shield. Red/Black is power, clear and shield is video and I believe the white is audio. Took some time to re-engineer the mounting but it looks like the original camera installation. Next step is figuring out how to connect up the monitor.
