I was actually overdue for new tires and I was trying to put it off until spring. The Maxxis 8008 tires I had went through a real torture test on my many trips on the crappy roads in IL, IN, and MS and they lasted 7 travel seasons…almost. I was also impressed that the tire issue I had was a steel belt breaking loose in the tire yet it didn’t cause a blowout. Today I bought a new set of Maxxis tires (235 80R 16) at $199 each, ouch. I guess I shouldn’t complain, I paid $180 each when I bought the previous set.Re: Good Sam ERS Hung Us Out to DryOP here, I’m beginning to think GS just doesn’t like me. While we were out shopping Tuesday GS called our home phone and left a message and phone number I could call back concerning our lack of road service. For the past two days I’ve called that phone number and all it does is ring and ring with no answering machine. As I said in another post, I don’t want reimbursement, I want to know why I didn’t get a text or call back on the day we were broke down. If they can’t take care of a member on a weekday afternoon in a major metropolitan area, I sure wouldn’t want to count on them for help in a rural area. You can bet I won’t be renewing any of our services or membership in GS. You can bet I won’t be recommending GS to any of our RV club members either. On a positive note this will make for a good story around a campfire.Re: Good Sam ERS Hung Us Out to Dry phil-t wrote: Oakman wrote: What I want is an emergency roadside service I can count on. Good Sam Raodside Assistance is the wrong choice. Good luck! They all fail, at some ponit/time. This was a simple tire/wheel change - no towing required. Any garage that does roadside service would do the work. Maybe the GS representative misunderstood your problem? Maybe I do? Yes, this was a simple tire change on the fifth wheel and GS knew it because they asked me if I had a usable spare tire, which I did. But regardless why didn't I receive a call back or text? These are COVID times and many businesses are short of help. But that is no excuse for not calling back. They hung us out to dry, it's that simple.Re: Good Sam ERS Hung Us Out to DryI don't want reimbursement, I'm upset they hung us out to dry. They could have at least called or texted me back to tell me they couldn't find someone to change our tire. What I want is an emergency roadside service I can count on. Good Sam Raodside Assistance is the wrong choice.Good Sam ERS Hung Us Out to DryThis topic has been moved to another forum. You can read it here: 30290539Good Sam ERS Hung Us Out to DryOn 18 Oct at a fuel station in St. Louis County MO I discovered a bulge in one of the tires on our fifth wheel trailer. We have been members of Good Sam Raodside Assistance since 2004 so I called at 1:49 PM to get the tire changed. After answering a number of ridiculous questions the GS representative asked me, I was told they would text me when they had a tow company to change the tire. At 2:30 I still hadn’t received a text or call so I phoned Good Sam again. The agent checked and told me they were still searching for someone to provide us service. At 3:30 PM I still hadn’t heard from Good Sam Roadside Assistance so I started calling local companies myself. I finally found a tow company that could change my tire and they showed up at 4:30 PM. By 5 PM we were back on the road and my wallet was much lighter. I never did hear back from Good Sam Roadside Assistance, no text, no call, nothing. Keep in mind this occurred in a major metro area on a weekday in the afternoon. HOW SAD!! I hope others who depend on Good Sam don't have my experience.Re: I Love Nature and Trees But...I received a response from MO State Parks and I think I'm calling BS. Here’s their response to my email. "Thank you for contacting us. I appreciate your concern and sending the photographs of the tree. Unfortunately, that tree is currently protected due to it also being a roosting tree for bats and we are under strict guidelines for not cutting any roost trees during the season. Because of this, park staff have blocked the road under the remaining living branch to prevent drivers from potentially damaging personal property. Once the last branch of the tree has died, staff will re-evaluate the situation to determine if the tree can be removed. Jenn Wood Missouri State Parks" While I know bats can and do roost in trees, WNS has wiped out most of the bats in the area of Meramec State Park. Also about 100 yards from that tree is Fisher Cave which I believe the bats would prefer for roosting.Re: I Love Nature and Trees But...I was going through my old camping photos and found a picture of that same Burr Oak taken 10 years ago. Obviously the tree is dying and should be taken down before it falls down. I'm in the process of writing a letter to MO State Parks and DNR to express my thoughts about removal of that tree.I Love Nature and Trees But...It’s time for the 300 year old Burr Oak in the campground at Meramec State Park in Missouri to go. The only part of that tree that is still alive is the one limb that extends over the campground road. There is no way to drive around that limb without having some of the branches drag across the roof of high profile 5th wheel trailers. After a rain some branches hang as low at 10 feet. If they don’t want to remove the tree then at least they should extend the blacktop road away from the tree so it won’t cause damage to trailers. Missouri State Parks should also post a low clearance warning on the Meramec SP camping webpage. Here are a couple pics of the tree.
