I have a 2014 Ram 3500 dually with the fifth wheel prep package and a Reese R-20 hitch. My 5er is a 41ft Raptor toyhauler. I use the Reese picture frame adaptor in the bed of the Ram and that raises the hitch 2 inches. I also have the head of the hitch itself set on the second to the highest mountung setting. That raises it another two inches. This setup allows me to hook up and tow very level. Once I made the hitch adjustment my mpg while riding went from 8.5 to 11.8 on the same route. When unhitched, I can still close the trifold tonneau cover with no interference. When hitched up, I have 6.7 inches clearance between bed and bottom of trailer.Re: rim RatingsOn both my Ram 3500 and on my 5er the max psi rating for the wheels are stamped on the backside of the wheel. I had to crawl under both to find it but they were all clearly marked. On the 5er it read "max psi rating 110psi", on the Ram it says "80 psi maximum".Re: Online Good Sam order (Free Shipping?)Do you order it online? I had something similar happen to me. When I called to complain about being charged shipping, I was told that it was glitch in the website. They refunded the shipping and told me in the future to call my orders in instead of using the website. How can a company survive in the 21st century with websites like that? There are plenty of website designers available that can fix this problem cheaper than having your customers go elsewhere..Re: Other fees when buying 5th wheelMy dealer also tried to tack on these fees to the "out the door price" we agreed on. I called Keystone from his office and asked about the PDI fee and was infirmed that Keystone pays that fee for each RV delivered. Course I had them on speaker phone when I did it. When I went out after they hooked my new Fifth Wheel up and was doing a last minute walk around, I noticed a Camping World of XXXXXX Decal near the door and on the rear bumper. I went back in and asked them his they wanted to reimburse me for the Free Advertising. Did they want to do a yearly payment to me or monthly, otherwise they could remove their decals from my property.Re: "so called big rig friendly rv parks"I had a really bad experience this past March concerning my length. I had a confirmed reservation at St Andrews State Park in Panama City Fl. My confirmation letter even had the length of my Toyhauler (41ft). When we got to the park, I was fulling out the registration card and the attendant noticed the length and told me that they could not accommodate a rig that side. He said their max length was 35 ft. I should him my confirmation letter and he said "well someone obviously made a mistake." When I asked for a refund if my deposit I was told that I could not get a refund as all cancellations must be done 48 hours prior. Luckily we were able to get a sit at a local KOA.Re: Reese R20 - struggling to unhitchI have an R20 hitch. I have no problem knowing when the pin box is off of the lube plate. I look for a break in the contact point. Not necessarily the daylight that a lot of other hitches use, but just a break in the contact between the two. I also lower the legs to just touch the ground, raise the handle and pull out, then finish lowering legs enough to raise pin box off the lube plate until I see a break in the contact between the two. Disconnect umbilical and drive away.Re: real newbie with back up monitor ?Where in the back is the camera mounted? Could the lens be covered in dust and/or grime. There might even be a light sensor near the lens that is dirty or not working.Re: Diesel Truck MPGIf you are worried about MPG, you need to reconsider having an RV. Need to concentrate on more important things like towing capacity, stability, comfort on the road as you are going to be spending a lot of time in it. You also need to consider the type of terrain you are going to hauling over. Missouri is very hilly, so you are gonna want something that will hold speed going uphill and bleed off speed on downhill to save wear and tear on the brakes. Is your weight based on owners manual documentation or on a scale? Is it empty weight or fully loaded for camping weight? Lots of variables here. Bottom line most diesels get between 8.5 to 14 mpg towing a load. Depending on the above variables.Re: KudosGlad to hear that everything worked out for you and on a Sunday too. Too often all we see here is bad comments when in fact good service is also provided.
