I had a 2013 Winnebago 35F. Loved having the 1/2 bath with our kids or even when it was just the wife and I. Loved everything about the coach except the way it drives. Too much rocking and rolling, too noisy to hear the radio or have a conversation with the passengers. Once we got to our campsite it was great, just getting there was too much of a chore for me. The F550 based super C units are really nice, but we really, really prefer the cab of the A much better. Between that, and the fact I don't want no diesel, pretty much made it a no brainer. But, like already said and to answer your other question: No, there is no 'perfect', one size fits all RV. Everybody's needs, wants are different, and you just gotta figure out what works best for you. Newmar Bay Star is on my list of gassers to check into. We previously had a Winnebago Class A gasser, a 5th wheel TT and a bumper pull TT. Currently in a Class C gasser. We are Jeepers, so no more travel trailers. The Winnebago was great once we got where we were going, and the small (24’)Class C almost fits our needs for camping and towing our Jeep but gets really crowded when our 75lb German Shepherd comes along, however, both motorhomes were a pain in the butt to drive. The Class C drives better, but road noise and engine noise was a bit loud in both. The Winnebago was comfortable to sit in, but hated the way it handled. The Class C Thor handles better, but still not comfortable seating arrangement as the slide out prevents the driver seat from reclining enough and not enough leg room. I enjoy driving my Ford F-250, so I’m thinking maybe an F550 based Class C might be what I’m looking for, but I’ve read the newer F53 with the V8 and improved handling are nice. I’m partial to diesel power, but not sure I’m ready to go with a diesel pusher due to cost. Hoping for suggestions to my dilemma. I had a 2013 Winnebago gasser. Was very pleased with it when parked, but I hated driving it. Tried the cheap handling fix and it helped, just didn’t like the boat on the water feeling when driving it. Engine noise and road was pretty loud too. I hear the newest models with the V8 engine are quieter and handle better, so I’m sure thinking about checking them out. The THOR 32’ sticker price is around $250K. Trying to stay below that, but demand may make that target price unreal. I’m only familiar with Winnebago Class A and THOR Class C. Hoping for better amenities and quality like the Winnebago Class A we had, (water, sewer, electric, every part numbered, etc) but can live with THOR amenities if build quality was better.1.8KViews0likes0CommentsF550 based Super C - anyone but THOR.
I’m interested in F550 based Super C motorhomes, but based upon my current THOR class C and the few THOR Super Cs I’ve looked at, I’m really unimpressed and disappointed in the quality of their products. Are there any other makes that use an F550 chassis in a Super C? This will probably be my last motorhome to buy, and I am fairly certain a Super C is the best fit for my style of RV. I’ve had a Class A gasser (good quality, but drove horrible) and currently have a Class C (good size, easier to drive, but noisy and need more towing power for mountain driving) and I think a Super C will be just right if I can have the quality of construction, finish, and trim that I desire.5.1KViews0likes10CommentsRe: Looking to downsize a little - and we went and done it!
We downsized from a 2013 Winnebago 35’ Class A to a 2018 Thor 24’ Class C. We hated the way the F53 drove and the engine noise. The Class C drives much better and we love that we can get into more camping areas, but just as noisy to drive (if not worse). and we miss having the extra seating and a walk around bed, so thinking of trading again for something bigger. We were thinking a small diesel pusher or a Super C, but just now been hearing about the 7.3 motor. Is the 7.3 more quiet than the V10? You mentioned the new F53 is a better driver than your old coach - how so? I also have a Thor Chateau, and GGoodsell is correct. Took me awhile to figure this switch out myself! I can't imagine the roof vent fan being of much use for stovetop cooking though! I primarily use the ventahood at home and in my old motorhome and travel trailers while frying. I really doubt that the roof vent fan is going to help much.551Views0likes0Comments
