My family has a great support system at our church, and the VA is providing adequate funding. I wish researchers would find what causes ALS, and why military veterans get ALS at twice the ratio as the general population. As for transportation, the VA has provided a custom fitted manual wheelchairs and funding for a wheelchair van, which we used to buy an MV-1. So we are set up at least after the VA funded home modifications. So I will be hanging out at rv.net, and at my beloved Texas state parks. So if you see an old veteran tooling around in a fancy Permobil power wheelchair at a hill country state park, come on over and meet ol' Maor Dad!Major Dad hanging it upI knew this day would come, I just didn't think it would be this soon. I was diagnosed with ALS in February 2016, and the average life span of a person with Lou Gehrig's disease is 2 to 5 years but I don't think that I will even make it to two years. Being a quadraplegic has certainly taught me humility. But this old disabled veteran can't afford those fancy class A motorhomes with the built in lift system. My wife won't drive one of those anyway. The VA has provided us with all kinds of medical equipment, including this eyegaze computer I am using for this post. So however spotty VA medical care is they really come through with equipment and funds. All this to say farewell. I will miss hanging out on rv.net talking about my favorite hobby.Re: 2017 Thor Compass a/c works on generator but not 30 amp carringb wrote: Also if you have a twist-lock cord on the mothorhome, make sure its it is actually turned after the cord is inserted, before tightening the retainer ring. Otherwise the twist lock contacts won't have proper engagement. We have a winner! Since I've lost most of the use of my hands I have not been the one connecting the electricity. There is a slight clockwise twist to secure the power supply cable to the RV. My brother-in-law twisted it in for me and connected the power cable to a 20 amp outlet at the RV barn. It ran for 15 minutes beautifully. I am still taking it to my RV repair shop to get a Maxxair cover and a black tank flush installed. But the mystery of the air conditioner that works on generator but not shore power has been solved. Many thanks to all of you who offered your expertise to get this poor old disabled vet back on the road!Re: 2017 Thor Compass a/c works on generator but not 30 amp KAttkisson wrote: please inform us what is found as this is intriguing. Thanks WILCO. And I won't do anything unsafe. Heading to trusted RV repair shop next week, then to nearest Thor dealer in New Braunfels if necessary.Re: 2017 Thor Compass a/c works on generator but not 30 ampThanks for all the responses. The a/c works on the propane generator but not 30 amp. Both the 30 amp outlet and the 30 amp cord from the outlet to the rv test out fine. There are no appliances on at the same time except the refrigerator and some lcd lights. We haven't tried the on-demand water heater yet. I will double check the twist connection, though we've had that on the previous two rvs with no problems. Guess I call Thor tomorrow.Re: 2017 Thor Compass a/c works on generator but not 30 amp Harvard wrote: Are there any breakers involved in this "shut down"? If so, which breaker? Good question...but no breakers trip. The compressor tries to start, then shuts down. If you try to start it again, the same thing happens. The blower isn't affected.2017 Thor Compass a/c works on generator but not 30 ampWe downsized from a 34' TT to this little MH due to my disability, and to make travel easier. The 13.5 a/c works great on the propane generator, but shuts down when the compressor tries to kick in. The manual says nothing about this. A trusted technician tested the power outlet on the house and the 30 amp cord, and the problem isn't there. Anybody have an idea what I'm missing?Re: Lake City, Colorado campgrounds?Castle Lakes is one of our favorites. It is right on the Alpine Loop on Cinnamon Pass Road. Castle LakesRe: Pagosa Springs, COWe've enjoyed this campground. It's surrounded by national forest and near Weminuche Wilderness, and out of town. It puts us near some nice trails. Sportsman's Campground and Mountain CabinsRe: Help with attaching water hoses and sewer hosesThanks for the helpful suggestions...I knew there would be plenty of good advice here. I also know that campers are some of the most helpful people in the world, and that folks in the campground are willing to pitch in and help a disabled vet the way I was willing to help before this disease struck me down.
