We bought our first camper last winter and after it's first trip out, I am now missing 2 of my 3 vent stack caps. I was very careful where we drove, so I am think they were so brittle the wind took them. My main question is: is it okay to replace just the cap and not the base as well? If so, is any one familiar with a cap that fits this style of base? It looks different than most that I have seen that are held on by two metal tangs. Re: A/C Compressor Shutting off Mid Cooling CycleAnd I am guessing the compressors in RV units are not serviceable?A/C Compressor Shutting off Mid Cooling CycleWe spent a week in the southern KY heat and humidity last week and had some A/C troubles, luckily not until our last day though. The unit will come on like normal with both fan and compressor running, then after a period of time, maybe 10-30 min later you can hear the compressor kick off, yet the fan continues to run and the thermostat is still calling for cool (fan in "auto" mode) then you will hear the compressor attempt to kick back on at which time it will trip the 20 amp breaker. I assume it is kicking breaker because the compressor has not had time for the head pressure to reduce. The voltage at the CG was bit low but nothing crazy approximately 113V when A/C is running. The unit is a 2012 model Coleman Mach. Any ideas why the compressor would be shutting down?Re: DP vs. Gasser Bang for the Buck Bumpyroad wrote: msmith1199 wrote: Altern wrote: bluwtr49 wrote: One way to do it is to buy an older very high end DP. Many times these coach's sold new for around 500K but have pretty much reached the bottom of their depreciation...within reason. Downside is they may only have two slides but in most cases they have been extremely well taken care of. Some example would be 2000 to 2004 units like Country Coach, Beaver Marquis/Patriot Thunder, Monaco Executive/Dynasty, and etc. You can find quite a few models in the high 90's to low 100's and, if taken care of, will like hold most of their value for a long time. Seriously listen to what this man is saying - then follow his recommendations. You'll be glad you did. Seriously? The guy is 25 with a new baby and is talking about spending $30k on a motorhome and you guys want him to spend $100k instead? it's really easy to spend the money of somebody else . :) and I think the oP is a little mislead by his luck flipping his first RV. bumpy I am not looking to flip another one, I just want to buy it right. I love the thought of buying a well used high end coach, but I just don't have the funds to spend 50k on a Country Coach. I did look into older BB Wanderlodge, but those old Detroits like the fuel!Re: DP vs. Gasser Bang for the Buck msmith1199 wrote: Are you sure you've found legitimate ads for DP's in the 98 to 01 range that are in the $30k range? There are a lot of scams out there and people will post ads with what looks like super good deals in order to catch more suckers. These usually involve the old send us a good faith deposit and we'll hold it for you deal. You may be correct about this as I have done zero looking at used DP's lately, but those prices seem too low for what you are describing, unless they are wrecked units, or rat infested, or have some other serious issues. But back to your original question, if in fact you are finding DP's in good condition in that price range, then yes, I'd take a $30k DP over a $20k gas rig any day. You may be correct as I have not followed up any of them. here are a few examples though. In my experience if there is a Ph # listed it is usually legit. 2000 Dutch Start $27.9K http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/rvd/4643441273.html 1998 Monaco Windsor $34.9k http://stlouis.craigslist.org/rvs/4638711244.html 2000 Dutch Start $32.9K http://knoxville.craigslist.org/rvd/4592850181.html 2000 Monaco Windsor $31.5k (185k miles though) http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/rvs/4629932108.htmlRe: DP vs. Gasser Bang for the Buck darsben wrote: If I was in your shoes I would not buy one at all. May I ask what your reasoning is?DP vs. Gasser Bang for the BuckI am looking to buy our second motorhome. Our first motorhome was a 1999 32' Gerogetown. No frills, we sold it six weeks after we bought it because I didn't have a good place to store it indoors. My wife and I slept 18 nights in it and loved it, but when I have a chance to make a little money, everything I own is for sale! :) So two years later we are looking to buy another motorhome. I'm 25, and My wife is 22 and we just had our first baby this year. We love to boat also which is my reason for wanting a MH, I hate the thought of driving to vehicles to the lake. Onto my actual question. I'm a "wheeler Dealer" type and I can't stand the thought of buying something that I will lose money on if I HAD to sell it the next day. I understand I will lose money on it over time, but not overnight. Basically I have to buy things right or I won't buy it at all. So in my search I'd like to find a nice 32'-34' class A gasser with a super slide for around $15k. Well this doesn't seem possible, so in my search I have came across several diesel pushers in the '98 - '01 model years ranges for $30k or under. i.e. HR Endeavor, Monaco Diplomat/Windos, Newmar Dutch Star, etc. . . DO you agree that a gently used DP for $28-$30k would be a better buy that a gasser @ $20K? It seems like the materials used in the diesel pushers is much higher quality. Not to mention the better ride and power. What are your thoughts, if you were in my shoes what would you look for? Thanks, JakeRe: A/C Capacitor ProblemsCapacitors are in an enclosure on top of roof under the A/C shroud. The delay timer is only hooked to the compressor, I assume it's purpose is to protect the compressor from turning back on too soon after shutdown. The fan will come on immediately, but the compressor waits 2.5 min to kick on.Re: A/C Capacitor ProblemsWell, I still didn't think to grab the model number off of the unit, but I did figure out what the PC board was mounted next to the caps was. It is a 150 second (2.5 min) delay circuit. When power is applied, the blower fan kicks on immediately then 150 seconds later the compressor kicks in. Is it just to prevent the compressor from cycling off then back on too soon? The reason I ask is that with the delay circuit board in there there is not enough room to mount the new start and run caps that I put in.A/C Capacitor ProblemsWell, I am five days into RV ownership and I have a problem with my A/C compressor not coming on. The thermostat will kick the fan on, but compressor will not start. I had this same thing happen to my Dad's 5'er a few years ago so I immediately went up and checked the capacitors. Sure enough the Start cap had its top blown and I believe that caused a hole to be melted into the side of the run cap. So I bought new caps and will be replacing the original start cap with the common SPP6 Hard start kit while I'm at it, but one thing that seemed odd is that there is a printed circuit board mounted under the cover with the capacitors, is this normal? The reason I ask is because my dad has what seems to be the same unit, but he has no PC board next to capacitors. Does this make any difference when replacing the original start cap with the Supco SPP6? Also, for anyone who has done the SPP6 upgrade how did you mount the new LARGER cap since it appears it won't fit into the original metal enclosure. Suggestions please. Thanks for the help, Jake **Note I will edit with model number of the A/C Unit when I get the numbers.
