I did buy a laptop with Windows 8.1 and I hated it. I did update that to Windows 10 as soon as I could and I am much happier with the laptop now. The first thing that I did was go into settings to Privacy and shut everything off. There is no spying, no information that goes out that I do not want going out. But I like my Win 7 PC with XP Mode for older software and all runs well and I will keep it like that.Re: DVD recording with HDMI or (5 wire) component inputThere are a few DVD recorders still being sold. Most do not have tuners and must be connected to a cable box to record. Toshiba, Phillips, and Funai make these -likely the same one rebranded. Samsung sells a DVD recorder with a built in digital tuner. This unit has component inputs and an HDMI output. I found these with a quick Google search for "DVD recorder". These may not be any better than what you currently have. If the games you are looking to record are on over teh air broadcasts that can be picked up with an antenna you may get better results with a unit like the Samsung that has a digital tuner - connect that to an antenna and pull in the local broadcasts of the games. This may record better than a recorder connected to a cable box.Re: Turn computer off or let it sleep ???I learned the hard way to turn off completely and then unplug. I have all of my computer components on the same surge box with my computer. When I turn off the computer I pull the surge box plug completely taking everything off the grid. No danger of damage if everything is unplugged. One plug puts it all back the next time. It is worth the few minutes for the system to boot each time.Re: tv tilingDo you have LED light bulbs in your RV? Inexpensive LED bulbs are often not shielded properly and will interfere with electronics - like a TV picture. Just a possibility. Other possibilities - There is a coax antenna connection loose somewhere. If your battery is turned off your antenna booster is off. Your antenna booster may not be working. One way to troubleshoot - do you have a DVD player with you? Connect the DVD player directly to the TV and see if the same things happen under the same conditions. If yes, there is nothing wrong with your antenna, its booster, or your wiring from the antenna. If no DVD player now, wait until you get home and try this out.Re: CoPilot on two devices - with 1 licenseSee my response to you on the CoPilot Black Friday post that you also posted this question on.Re: I think we'll be cable tv cordcutters - roku tvYou still have to pay COX for your internet connection - or someone. And having a single service from these cable companies often costs more than when paired with one of their other services.Re: CoPilot Premium USA - Black Friday bayoubelle wrote: I have a quick question, I have Copilot on my iPad, I went to purchase on my iPhone because at $2.99, who can resist. It let me download without paying, I thought you could only have it on one device. They state you need separate licenses to use simultaneously, which I don't plan to do. Will it work on both devices? I not how do I pay the $2.99 for second device, it never asks? It is necessary to delete the app from one device and then install it on the other to be able to move it from one device to another. What they don't tell you is that you can only do this a limited number of times before it will not allow you to do this anymore. I learned this from their support forum. Not really right since we have paid for the app and most other paid apps have no problem running on more than one device as long as you bought the app. I am also not sure how to buy it a second time for a second device other than logging into the Itunes app store with another ID. You might try to get an answer on how to do this on their support forum without having to have a second Itunes account. Not sure if you will get much tech response over the weekend but another user may give you the answer over there.Re: CoPilot Premium USA - Black Friday dons2346 wrote: Anyone know if you can put your own POIs on the map? I'd like to use it for geocaching. Yes. I have added files from POIFactory to mine. If you want red light cameras you have to do this as for some reason CoPilot has decided that it is not legal to include these in the US - even though they can be added (for free) on the European maps versions.Re: Android wifi rangeThere are some wifi extenders/boosters that will find the nearest wifi signal on their own without a computer, grab the signal, lock it in and boost it. You then connect the wifi from the booster and not the source it originates from - so you would have your Android to scan for wifi, look for Amped and select that on the phone to connect to. The distance it will work depends on the extender. Not sure if the Amped Wireless adapter model ua600ex has this capability. No mater what you don't need a wifi router - which generally need a wired network connection to work from.Re: I wanna watch TV!There is a device that you connect between the cable from your directional antenna and your television and while you turn the antenna it finds the strongest signal. You stop and scan your TV there to lock in the channels. No more turn, scan, turn, scan until you get the best direction and no guessing if you match the direction of the antenna to what an app tells you. It costs about $40 and can be found in most RV shops.
