My fifth specs about the same as yours and truck could only properly brake a 5000 lb trailer. Dodge dealer said I had to select for light/mid or heavy trailer. I had previously researched and since I had base model with no fancy uconnect screen that option was not there, they did not believe me until they tried themselves. They then said they could upload program, again not possible in base model. Solution, disconnect factory and install after market. Works like a charm nowRe: Towing on 2010 ram 6.7 dieselbeware of 2010 with factory installed brake controller. I have a 3500 and the factory brake controller could not stop a 5000 lb let alone my 12,000 without manually applying. Because on the trim model of my truck, relatively base, there is no fancy screen to select between 4 power settings. Dealer could not even access to reprogram. They were surprised themselves. Now have an aftermarket With that truck you have power but!Re: Having trouble with remote operated black tank valveMore food for thought. I have a 2012 Winnebago Raven with 2 grey and 1 black tank. After 2 years kitchen grey would not close 100% so hooking up at campsite would give you a bit of mess when you remove the cap. Brought it in for service and they lubed up the cable and all was good. Two months ago same thing, same tank. Brought it back. Had to drop the underbelly cover and replace the valve. Cause was sloppy manufacturing. In the assembly of the unit they had drilled out the drain hole for the tank and let the resulting donut fall into the tank. It got partially lodged in the open valve at some point causing distortion and deterioration of the seal requiring the valve to be replaced. Bill had higher labor hours on it for this than the primary reason I had brought the unit in for which was a failed slide motor(slide motor failed because wife kept on trying to retract slide without making sure obstacles were clear. Multiple attempts caused a shift in square resulting in greater load)Re: Holy Moly the new trucks are TALLTo OP, if you are looking at a used Ram 3500 make sure you do your diligence on the 2011. Factory supplied trailer brake controller is not useful for anything over 4000 lbs. I bought the truck new and bought my fiver 6 months later. First two years of pulling(just short trips with limited hill) I was blaming fiver. Had trailer brakes adjusted, changed controller settings and still not stopping power unless you applied manually. Brought it to dealer to check out controller, they said all was fine. This past summer had to make panic stop at 50 mph and fortunate that I was quick with manual otherwise I would have been on top of cars in front. Did a google search. 2011 Rams with factory supplied controller are only good for light towing. Subsequent years have three settings(light, medium and heavy) which you can select thru your EVIC. Brought truck to dealer, they did not believe me but one day later they acknowledged that only has one setting and they can't flash an update. Solution is an aftermarket. Great, I bought a truck capable of towing 15,000 lbs but don't try and stop it. Other than that great truck, great exhaust brake and average fuel economymoisturetook cover off fifth wheel on weekend and found that a critter had been under during the winter and made a mess of vent stack and antennae wire. Went under trailer to see if they had been anywhere else. Thankfully nothing showed(outside or in). Did notice that the chlorplast material under trailer seemed to have a sag or two. Lifted and water came out the sides. After consulting dealer, since they were booked full for a week, that i drop the chloroplast and remove the insulation to at least get rid of moisture. Dropped the liner and only insulation is aluminized bubble wrap laying directly on liner, over 6" of air above till floor. Moisture is only between liner and wrap, nothing on top of wrap. No signs of moisture anywhere inside. Still going to get dealer to check it all out but thought in my head is could it be condensation? Moistly summer camping with AC full tilt but some spring/fall with heater going pretty good at night. Box temperature difference when compared to outside temps could be upto 30F. Unit is a 3 year old Sunnybrook Raven 2980BH. Any thoughts?Re: Winnebago 5th wheelHave a 2012 Raven 2980BH which we bought at RV show based on show model and floorplan. Unit checked all the boxes for layout, finish and $. Dealer corrected issues we identified on pickup and in first year. Biggest issue was rear bumper. Only thing attached to it is spare tire and after 18 months noticed bumper was "pealing" off of the frame extensions. Welds were fine just the metal quality was poor. Was not worth the fight with the dealer for repairs, i welded supports from frame to under the bumper and all is good. Have worked up thru tent trailers and trailers all in mid price/quality range and all have had their minor issues as does this fifth wheel. I have a home that i live in, RV is for 4 to 6 weeks a year. I take care of unit, use it for 8 to 10 years and then have been able to sell it for reasonable $
