So sad that original company isn't around anymore.2012 6x15 LivinLite VRVWe have a 2012 6x15 VRV from original Scott Tuttle-owned Livin Lite company. We're ready to think about selling it... but you don't see many of these original ones listed anymore. Has anyone sold an original model in past couple years? What are they listing for?Re: Options for a trailer with a Honda Pilot as TV.Correction: it's to sleep in and haul all our gear in!Re: Options for a trailer with a Honda Pilot as TV.We have a Honda Pilot 4WD w/ tow package, and tow a Livin Lite VRV w/ it. We have an older 6x15 VRV, which I don't think they make that small anymore. We have 4 kids. This brand is all-aluminum without any wood in it, really making it lightweight. I found that a lot of small traditional RVs say they're "featherlight" but really weigh 3,500 or more! If your kids are already teenagers, they are all the same gender, they've been raised tent camping....then I suggest you buy a small RV and have the kids continue to sleep in a tent together. Most State Parks (at least where we've been) will allow 1 tent on a site w/ an RV. This is what we've started doing w/ our kids and they like it best anyways (we also tent camped before the RV). We don't spend time during the day in our RV (just like we didn't in the tent!). It's to sleep in. So we don't need a big one. There is a small toilet room w/ a shower nozzle. And our kitchen is a countertop w/ a sink, which is nice to wash dishes in. We still use a cooler. Still cook outside.Re: Camping near mammoth cavesWe also stayed at Jellystone several years back when kids were little. It was the only one we could find with a pool. We stayed in cabins because my parents were with us and they don't camp. But we did notice some noisy large groups of what looked like 18-22 yr olds that were partying it up. My husband and I both stated we were glad we weren't in a tent on that trip. If we go back we'll stay at the park's campground even without them having a pool. But I will add that we are partial to the park campground and generally not as fond of the private campgrounds.Re: Hybrid at or under 3500 lbsWe have an all-aluminum hybrid trailer, which makes the weight a lot less since there is no wood at all, but also is more expensive. We own a Livin Lite brand VRV (versatile recreation vehicle), it's more of a "toyhauler" type of RV. The Livin Lite brand also makes pop-ups and regular campers, and truck campers - all all-aluminum. The VRV toyhauler split off into it's own brand recently. But you can do a search and read up about it. We tow with a Honda Pilot, with 4,500 capacity - I feel like it barely makes it. Our dryweight of the trailer is like 2,200, so very light. We have 4 kids, so lots of crap, and they're bigger now so bikes are bigger, more food packed, we stay out longer so more gear for longer trips, etc. We had minivans before this and looked into towing w/ it, but we decided to move to Pilot for that 8th seat and also upgrade towing. But vacationing on very hilly or mountain terrain we can feel the Honda towing the trailer. On flat it's not a big deal, but inclines we can tell.Re: Carters Cave KY TripWe went to Carter Caves for the first time this summer, too, and LOVED it! It rained the whole time, which thankfully didn't affect the caving. But we didn't get to hike enough, I want to go back! It was gorgeous! I also love Natural Bridge, Red River Gorge, etc...that part of KY is jut gorgeous!Re: This just makes no sense to meI've found this w/ most private campgrounds. We camp mostly at state parks, etc. They usually have a site maximum of 6 people, and the price is the same if you have 1 or 6. When we vacation, we are usually going to actually hike in the state park anyways, so it makes sense to stay there anyways. And many of them have Lodges that have arcades & pools, nature centers, some have gem mining and golf courses, mini-golf, tennis/basketball/frisbee golf, all kinds of amenties. Many of them have some programs for the campground or from a naturalist. Usually more stuff than we can get to in one trip. But, usually there are less full hookup sites. So I really encourage you to look at some public park campgrounds! I prefer them, personally, and I feel like we get a ton of value for usually $25-$30 a night. Public recreational land is an asset I thank the sweet Lord that we have in this country. I hope we chose to keep them up and running!Re: Any active family camping sites? We have 4 kids too. There are people out there TENT camping w/ 4 (and more) kids, so you won't be alone. I use tripadvisor and rvparkreview websites. I honestly don't think you need a specific website for camping w/ kids. There's a ton of families w/ kids camping and if you have 4 kids, well you're already used to handling 4 kids, it's not much different when camping. If you're all going to use your RV shower daily, have big tanks! (we don't, so we do military showers or use the shower house some). How old are your kids? Ours are 12, 10, 10, 8 now and it's a lot easier. When we first started camping it was tent camping and the kids were like 6, 4, 4, 2 and that was a******ton of work! Still fun and worth it, but looking back -- whooowee! One of the hardest thing back then was keeping them on our campsite, because we felt they were too young to let them go off to playground, etc while we set up & cooked.... And showers in the shower house - having them wash up and keep their washcloth off the floor, etc.Re: Livin Lite VRV aluminum oxidationWe have a Livin Lite VRV, a few years old and have not had this problem. We store it outside all the time. We live in the midwest. That would suck! I hope you are able to get it resolved to your satisfaction. But I can only imagine what a hassle and stress! I'll have to keep an eye on ours.
