Interested to hear of others experience with neverfail. Didn't go too far last year and haven't prechecked before starting this year yet to see how they have stood up to use. Had wet bolts on previous trl and had no probs.Digital temperature gun FYIOn sale in Canadian Tire this week for S30 down from $100. Cheap way of checking for potential wheel bearing or brakes problems. We use one regularly when travelling just as a safety measure. Read reviews for 1001 other uses.Re: Pending Maiden Voyage - Need helpful tips and advicePaper towels and hand wipes are the 1st things I make sure we have and spares. Inside extension cord for when an outlet isn't near enough inside the trl. Scrubby pad for dishes. First aid kit with instructions. To be continued......Factory brake controllerSilverado is 1 year old with 20k. No probs until returning from last trip. "Check trailer wiring' message comes up on display. So far I have dismantled and cleaned grounds on trl and visually checked wiring. Dealer installed new 7 pin plug on truck as "old" one was corroded and vehicle tested OK. still no brakes on trl. Checked voltage output between brake pin and ground and reads 0.71V. Nothing further happens when foot brake applied or manually applied brake controller. System was acting strange on return from last trip in that the coloured bar display, to show how hard you are applying brake, would work and 5 seconds later not work. Brakes would then work again if manually applied and 5 seconds later not work. Now nothing is working at all. What gives? I know what I think is wrong but dealer tells me truck is OK. Heres the kicker. Borrowed Service Advisor's truck while Chev looked at. Its a Ford F150 and the trailer brakes worked fine when I plugged trl into it. Guess solution is to trade for a Ford!! What are the opinions out there as to next step???Wall too hot next to fridge flue ventFound that an area of the panel wall next to fridge vent/flue is getting very warm when fridge runs on propane. As a retired firefighter it is hot enough to make me concerned. Continual heating to a lower than ignition temperature can, over time, cause the ignition temp of a material to be lowered. The process is called pyrolysis. Temp was such that I didn't want to hold my hand on it for more than 2 seconds. Had a look at flue from back side of fridge and it looks as though there is fibreglass insulation in the area of concern. Thinking that this is the problem by holding in the heat instead of a clear air space all around the flue pipe. Would have to take roof cap off to get at insulation, so not a 5 minute job. However seriously thinking this is the way to go as concerned about temp. Anyone out there come across same problemRe: Add a roomAnd I'd like to have a beer with y'allRe: Add a roomThanks for the suggestions. Our dogs barf if they are in the vehicle for 10 mins as they were never taken driving as puppies, besides they are the breed that is not readily acceptable everywhere. Our 5th wheel is a 22.5ft box, no slides and with not enough room to stand in the bed area. We got it with the idea of better gas mileage, easier to manoeuver, access to smaller campsites etc. We really like the layout, but for an extended stay we were thinking an add a room would give us extra space that a bigger trailer would already have. Would also be cheaper than changing rigs. Seen several ads looking for add a rooms so if it doesn't work for us we could always sell it!!Add a roomNewly retired after 33 yrs as a firefighter. Looking forward to snowbirding as soon as our old dogs go to that big park in the sky. Are there any campgrounds out there were FFs tend to group, pretty sure there are plenty of us out there? Our 5th wheel is a smaller lower model and we are considering an 'Add a room' for extra space. What has been experience with them? How about winds in Texas? Awning has legs that fold down and secure to ground so wonder if this makes a difference? Hope you all survived winter well. Yesterday was the 1st day in 2 months above zero and sunny too. Time to start tapping trees for maple syrup.Re: 5th wheel tongue safetyUsed a piece of pool noodle and bungee cords around the plate above the king pin(?). Saved my head a few times. Maybe try pipe insulation.Re: Record Low Temps in the KeysFor all you Ontario snowbirds, it is warmer in Winnipeg and Whitehorse than it is in Toronto today!! This time last week I was moaning about no AC on a bus in Mexico !! Next winter somewhere warmer for a lot longer.
