I can tell you I'm hear right now. I like the place. I have a 34 foot pull along rv and a crew cab long bed truck that fits fine in front of my camper. The width of the sites isn't bad, the back to back is pretty close. But it's nothing different than what I've experienced in the other beach resort campgrounds I've been to. It's small and quiet. On Sunday the beach was busy but after that pretty empty. Maybe a dozen people on the beach yesterday when I was there. I haven't seen any jelly fish the bay at all. Correct there is no shade, but then again I've been to outer banks and myrtle beach and had no shade there either. They have a beach area and we've been hanging out at it and swimming in the bay. Dogs are allowed in the dog area of the beach. The pool is nice and it's open until 10pm. There is a bar, eatery on the deck at the bay. That is nice too and the food is fine. Plenty of space to relax. Eastern shore wildlife refuge is across the street if you want to do some hiking or if you have kayaks, I've been launching at their kayak launch and fishing. I also went on a party boat fishing trip on the miss jennifer about 10 minutes north of here at Cherrystone. Kiptopeke state park is next door if you want to check that out. I'm headed there tomorrow for some kayak fishing and crabbing. I'm here with 5 families and we are having a good time and would not hesitate to come back. We are enjoying the relaxing. There is also a kayak rental company out in front of the hotel. They do rentals and kayak tours. Not sure what else I can say. Place is pretty clean. The kids are having fun. Yesterday drove out onto the bridge for lunch and last night drove into Va Beach for some lunch. Didn't go to any of the attractions there though. One small town nearby here. Cape Charles. It has a block or two of little shops, ice cream shop, etc...Re: Chesapeake bay camping suggestion. Thanks for all the suggestions so far folks...I'll be pouring a drink and surfing through all the info soon...I appreciate it.Chesapeake bay camping suggestion.Looking for a family camping place for next summer vacation. Details are 6 families, 7 teenagers. Staying for a week or so. Must have full hookup and the campground on the water, kayaking, etc...we've been to cherrystone and bethpage...looking to try something new..any suggestions?Re: NJ to New Hampshire Gene&Ginny wrote: sperduton wrote: .... The question is over near Boston and going north. Should I go 495-95-to rt 16 and 16 all the way up. ... That would be my choice as I have gone that way many times. The toll portion of 16 has been upgraded a few times. After the last toll the road drops to one lane each direction but moves well and is good road. There is a trick to avoid the Rt 95 and Rt 16 tolls that I learned many years ago from someone that was seasonal in a campground we went to often. From Rt 495 take exit 51B onto Rt 125 North. Rt 125 connects with Rt 16 just past the tolls. The first 2 or 3 miles are congested but once you get to Plaistow NH the road is mostly 50 MPH (or above ;) ) In Plaistow there is a truck stop like gas station with a Dunkin Donuts. Easy to get gas and coffee. That "shortcut" is a little slower but shorter with more interesting scenery. Total travel time, for me, is a little better on Rt 125, even with the slow section through Haverhill MA. When you go up 125, do you get on 16 at the first place it crosses 16 (where it still appears to be a turnpike?) or do you continue up 125 Through Rochester and get on up there?NJ to New HampshireI've gotten some good advice from the forum before. I'm heading up to NH from NJ. Going to KOA in Tamworth, then a couple days later to Danforth Bay in Freedom, NH. I already know from past experience I pretty much dislike 684/84 through CT. So I'm going up 87 and across 90. The question is over near Boston and going north. Should I go 495-95-to rt 16 and 16 all the way up. or should I go 495-93-104-25..I don't know what 104 and 25 are like vs 16. Any suggestions. Going up on a Thursday and coming back on a Saturday. Thanks, NickRe: Western NJ to Mystic, CT jplante4 wrote: I-95 through CT is miserable and we avoid it at all costs. They have been working on the 91/95 interchange for 20 years and it's still not done. I-95 in CT is mostly 2 lanes and when an 18 wheeler gets into the passing lane it's like a rolling road block. This will sound nuts, but I can tell you mid-day weekday, this route will save you time and aggravation. TZ bridge to I-684 to I-84 to I-691/CT66 to Middletown to CT9 south to Old Lyme and re-connect to I-95. Where are you staying in Mystic? mystic KOA is where we are staying.Re: layover spot in va.Friend of mine have stayed at the walmart a few times. Off exit 282 in Virginia. That's just below Winchester. They stayed there just last Sunday on the way home from the races.Re: layover spot in va.I will tell you the camping world in Winchester was a bit of a pain to find room to park my truck and trailer to even go shopping. I've had that issue at that Camping World and the one by roanoake. They have repair trailers parked everywhere.Western NJ to Mystic, CTBeen many years since I've had to travel rt95 in NY. Heading from Western NJ (on border of PA) to Mystic. Leaving mid day on a Thursday, returning mid day on a Monday. What would be the best route? Initial thoughts are 287 to the tappanzee and 95 the rest of the way. Is there a better alternate route?Re: New England Lake Front mdcamping wrote: Champlain Adult Campground we were there 2 yrs ago, Full hookups, park like grounds, fishing, canoeing, kayaking. as the campground name says... which is more geared for older Rvers Mike Thanks for the tip but among the 5 families we camp with there are about 8 kids. So I'm thinking this is not the place. Danforth bay looks pretty nice so far. Thanks, Nick
