With the virus situation in the country, I think I should wait to do this so I don't have to meet with someone who might be ill and not know it yet. Also need to sell truck and RV but I think I might get more later when things settle down.New DISH equipment to sell, husband diedLast fall my husband and I switched from DirecTv to DISH because DirecTv was making changes to their RV programming. We also use satellite in our home in FL so we have been using that since October. When we signed up with DISH, we were talked into buying the equipment for the RV because it was on sale. We could turn it on when we traveled in the summer. It was a great plan except that he died suddenly in February. I was the driver but I cannot go RVing by myself. He was my navigator. I would appreciate suggestions of how to sell this new equipment, boxes never opened. It is a Wally and an HDTV Indoor Over the Air Antenna with Dual USB adapter. DISH will not take them back because it has been so many months since we purchased them. They said the warranty would not be activated until the equipment was installed in the RV.Re: Switching surge guard brandsI purchased a Progressive Industries 50 amp portable unit in 2015 after my Surge Guard died. The unit right out of the box didn't work right. The company sent me a new one and I returned the old unit. By the end of the summer, that unit wasn't working right. That unit failed during the 2016 summer trip. The same thing was true with 2017 and now this year. Thus, I have been through 4 units in 4 summers and am about to start on my 5th. If this keeps up, I may have to go back to a Surge Guard. Before everyone starts jumping on me, the electric in my rig is fine. I had my RV repair person check that out. The places we have stayed at this summer have all had good, modern electric posts. I do think that having a unit is good insurance, would just like to have one that I can depend upon.Re: Direct TV in CanadaChilly-in-Vermont, your web link was perfect. I was able to point the cube in the right direction and had a connection in a very short time. Thanks for the link. Others should use it when going to Canada.Direct TV in CanadaHeading to Quebec in a few weeks. I'm wondering if I will be able to get Direct TV while there. Does anyone know what the numbers are? ThanksRe: Refrigerator in slide out not cold enoughFolks, I have already done things like added extra fans which run constantly. We have added baffels at the top. The entire cooling unit was replaced. The list goes on and on. I am not interested in your opinion about what to try next. Please, just answer my questions or simply don't post!Refrigerator in slide out not cold enoughI have used my present rig for 10 summers with the refrigerator in the slide out not being cold enough. For 10 years various mechanics have tried to "fix" the problem without success. My wife and I are at the point of wanting to replace the refrigerator. Dometic still makes the exact same model as our present refrigerator at a cost of around $ 1,300. My mechanic tells me that improvements over the years have included greater amounts of insulation as compared to mine. My question to him is that if we spend all this money, will we still have a refrigerator that isn't cold enough? My understanding through my mechanic is that manufacturers have stopped using traditional RV refrigerators in slide outs. They have gone to a household type electric refrigerator. I have looked at a 10 cu. ft. household type refrigerator at Home Depot that would fit the opening where my present refrigerator sits. My mechanic has suggested that I could run the generator while on the road to keep the refrigerator cold. I'm not wild about this idea. The other alternative would be to just not have the refrigerator run while we are traveling. On the days that we travel, our typical day is no more than 3 hours travel in the morning with a one hour stop for lunch. I normally put the generator on at lunch time. We will then travel no more than 3 hours in the afternoon. I'm wondering if the food would stay cold with the refrigerator off for these times. This option would be $ 1,000 less expensive. Please don't suggest alternative fixes. I have tried many, many things an am no longer interested in seeing if this or that idea works.Re: the fan for the refrig runs all the timeI have my refrigerator in the slide out. This year, my RV mechanic wired the two fans that he installed so that they would run all the time. It has helped with the recovery time after travel - the refrigerator gets colder faster. I have learned that refrigerators in slide outs can cause a lot of problems.Re: Black Tank Chemicals for High TemperaturesWhen we are traveling, I empty the tank weekly. Since the sensors don't work, weekly seems to be fine for the 2 of us. All I can tell you is that when I tried to use just 2 ozs for a week, an odor would develop. With 4 ozs the week was fine. When traveling, I flush the tank regularly letting the flush go until the water is almost clear. I plan to buy something and would really appreciate product recommendations. If you are happy with just using water. I'm not comfortable with that. We have been doing this since 2001 and have always used some sort of chemical.Black Tank Chemicals for High TemperaturesI have used RV-Trine Extreme Temperature solution for my black tank for many years. The product has been discontinued. I liked it because when traveling in hot weather, I felt that it was better for odor control than other products. After getting back to Florida in August, one treatment would keep the tank odor free until we used the RV again next spring/summer. With this product no longer available, what would you recommend for my application? There are so many products to choose from that it's hard to decide which one would be best.
