I'm now suspecting the washer fell on the floor as that one went down the assy. line. Since there is no crankcase back pressure and the oil is traveling up a vertical shaft about all I can figure is it's being thrown by the crank. I'll post an update as to what is found when I do.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.MrWizard, The oil leak is just enough to puddle on top of the engine after a few hours running. (and make a big mess) The engine is a downsized copy of the GX series but smaller than the standard GX-200. The gen is 1200/1500w with the engine being 2.8hp. The gen is new with 10 hrs and has leaked since the beginning. Does not show to be over filled. I may try lowering the oil level to half full just to see what happens before splitting the case. Here's a link to the same type gen. http://jackyhan.blogspot.com/2009/01/st1500-1500w-four-stroke-portable-with.htmlRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Professor95, Any chance you where able to ask Paul about what might cause an oil leak at the governor shaft. I'm about down to splitting the case to see if the washer is missing. A question about the one on your engine. Does the washer fit snug against the engine case? I think there are tabs on the shaft on which the washer is held up. ThanksRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Professor, I've tried about everything I can think of, even completely removing the valve cover vent hose from the air filter housing. It's open and working properly. The governor shaft seemed to have quite a bit of vertical movement compared to my ELM 3000 so I added a thin washer under the clip to raise the shaft slightly and reduce the slack. This had no effect of the leak. As this is a new engine excessive wear isn't the problem. Out of curiosity, on your engine, does the washer fit snug against the case or does it have notable clearance? I would appreciate any insight Paul might have on the problem. Thanks!Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Professor, Tried sending an email but looks to have been lost. I recently bought a 1200/1500w Model ST1500 mfg. by Robot. It's the typical GX clone in a downsized version. It has an oil leak at the governor shaft on top of the block. I've looked at every IPB of this series motor and none show a seal for the shaft, only a plain flat washer. In your Photobucket pics you have an excellent shot of the governor. http://s21.photobucket.com/albums/b298/professor95/?action=view¤t=governoratspeed.jpg It appears there might be a seal in the case where the shaft goes through the block. Do you remember if this is a seal or just a washer? I've check for a plugged crankcase vent and is OK. The leak is significant while running. If this is just a flat washer it probably is to deflect oil thrown from the crank and may be missing. Returning the gen is not an option so I may have to do surgery. ThanksRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Hourmeter Installation: Here is an example of installing a hourmeter. This one is on my ELM3000. A view from behind: RTV is a good way to secure wiring. Always use the non-corrosive kind. Just poke around with your Voltmeter for somewhere that stays hot with the correct voltage. This is where I connected my 120VAC Hobbs Model 20001. Those that have 12VDC available would probably find a wider selection of available models. I picked mine up on EBay for $10. I emailed the company to see if they had more available but have not received a reply. This particular one is rated 108-132VAC and .03 amps. Just disconnect the fuel line at the tank valve. I did notice on mine the fuel line seemed to be a little short, if is the same on yours might be a good time to replace it with another piece.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. Now that I've read it again (84 pages-whew!) I can't find it. Does anyone know the equivalent Honda model number. I'd like to see if US Carburetion has a tri-fuel mod for it. I believe it's a knockoff of the Honda GX Series. The Model GX200TQX2 looks to be close. There are probably other GX200's as well.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. thetrillofspeed wrote: Seems like a lot of people have purchased these generators.....we are well into summer, who has the most hours on their generator? How are they running? ELM3000 has 10 hrs. (installed an hourmeter for tracking). Changed to Mobil1 10w30 syn. oil at 10hrs break in. No problems (other than noted when first unpacked in an earlier post). Normal dino oil changes are at 30 hrs. May extend this slightly with the syn. Will just depend on how it looks at 30 hrs.
