All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Tucson to Organ Pipe RoutingWe traveled 86 a few years back on purpose to see the fabulous displays of wildflowers, that was in February, but if speed is your aim, take the freeways.Re: Highway 88 or 50 eastbound to 395Either 50 or 88 will get you there, take the one closest to where you live, don't sweat the east side of Echo Summit, but to ease your nervousness try to be there when traffic is lightest, going eastward that would be mornings on weekdays.Re: AZ to OR- which route is flatter?Having traveled I-5 many times to Oregon, without a doubt it's the fastest route, that said, the fast lanes typically are 75-80 mph, or the slower lanes are under 70, can you keep up?, one place you have to time is the Sacramento area - avoid the rush hours!Re: National Parks - ReserveAmerica shows full - accurate? To stay on the OP, At the NF website of a particular CG - look at the complete list of sites, they will be numbered - when you see a site missing from the list it is most likely a non-reservable site (walk-in) - keep in mind most NF and a lot of State CG's have a size limits - don't assume you can fudge a little on length especially during high season.Re: CA-152 west from I-5 to San Juan Bautista?a little followup on my last post re: hiway 152, as you are located in Arizona you know already how to drive in windy areas so the drive up Pacheco Pass wont bother you much with the unexpected gusty side winds around the San Luis Lake area, going down the west side keep your speed below 55-60 and you'll be OK. Casa De Fruita on 152 sells some really good dried fruit (mostly local) - there is also a CG there, sometimes can be busy when there is an event happening - if you decide to stay at the Mission farms CG, I should mention it's also withing walking distance to the old Mission and downtown.Re: CA-152 west from I-5 to San Juan Bautista?JT is correct, about a mile or thereabouts west of Casa de Fruita in 152, get in the left lane to exit onto 156 toward Hollister and SJB, There is a nice CG in SJB named Mission farms CG, it isn't advertised with Good Sam or Woodalls but is located in a nicely wooded park - When you get to the stop light intersection at SJB, take a left turn and go about a couple blocks and turn left again, mostly long termers but have spaces for overnighters too - it's walking distance to groceries - PO - Pizza and a really good Coffee shop (Vertigo) named after the famous Hitchcock movie of that name, There are a couple other CG's within 5 miles of SJB, Betabel probably the best but pricey. I live in the area and enjoy my coffee at Vertigo frequently.Good Sam Roadside InsuranceI just renewed my roadside assistance policy, first I went online and followed the procedure to renew - the basic policy was $109.95 which was three dollars less than the price quoted on my renewal letter ($112.95), after checking the proper blocks I continued to the payment page where to my surprise the price was now $136.95 with no explanation of the difference - So, before deciding to cancel the policy I called the 888 number listed and renewed for $107.95 - something here looks a bit fishy, Is Good Sam resorting to the classic "Bait & Switch" routine? Is this happening to other Good Sam customers?Re: Four Corners Area route adviceMy thoughts are 'too much time in a MH with those boys', how about picking up the MH in Albuquerque, NM, head straight to Mesa Verde NP, not much else around that area to keep the boys interested, the train from Durango to Silverton might be a good option, then head west via North Rim, Zion, Valley of Fire, Nevada and drop the MH in Las Vegas, hop on a flight to San Jose. CA, rent another MH and head west to Santa Cruz, Beaches, Boardwalk -fun things for young people, then after a few days head down the coast to Monterey, Big Sur and points south, I'm not sure how you can avoid going through the Los Angeles area (maybe midnight) to get to southern Ca Beaches etc. to San Diego to turn the MH in and fly back home.
