The idea that destruction is caused by powering up when cold makes me realize what has been happening. Last autumn the grandchildren camped with us and set the alarm feature on the TV to turn on in the middle of the night then turn off after an hour or so. With the trailer parked in a remote shed all winter, plugged into a 30 amp service, it would have powered up every night for the entire winter with no one to witness. I discovered the alarm function being on during our first night out this season but just didn't think through the consequences. You folks are a great source of practical knowledge -- thank you.Television storage and cold temperaturesI am about to replace my 4 year old factory provided Legend television and am seeking a brand that will tolerate cold temperatures during storage. My present Legend has suffered what appears to be delamination. The display has a kind of shadow in different parts of the screen. My RV is stored inside an unheated shed and a temperature of -21 degrees Fahrenheit was experienced last winter. Years ago when LCD first became popular I read of some RV'ers removing their TV to indoor warm storage in the winter months but am thinking some brand must have engineered a fix by now?Re: Noisy FireplaceThanks hohenwald48, just the kind of info I was looking for. Will give that a try.Re: Noisy FireplaceYeah it isn't much of a fireplace but I do like it better than the old $20 electric heater I used to set out in the middle of the floor. Kind of like the hand held remote too for heat level and fan speed so I don't have to get up and walk all the way over to the other side of the room.Noisy FireplaceI have a Greystone fireplace in my RV that has developed some fan noise. Can't tell if its a simple sheet metal rattle or a bad bearing. Anyone out there that has experience with these things?Toilet FlushAfter flushing my Dometic toilet, I like to partially refill the bowl with water but to do so requires balancing on one leg while depressing the flush pedal only a small distance as I steady myself against a wall. Has anyone developed a technique or modification that helps modulate the flush pedal?Re: Atwood 8535 FurnaceThank you all for the advice. I had this problem last year and after unplugging and reinstalling the six wire plug it operated correctly for a year. This time around, no such luck. I pulled the circuit board this afternoon and found some corrosion at a couple of soldered terminals on the back of the board. Guess I will order a board. Most everyone seems to endorse Dinosaur brand over original, because?Atwood 8535 FurnaceHaving trouble with my Atwood furnace. The furnace actually lights, burns for a few seconds then shuts down. Repeats three times then shuts down for good. Then display of flashing LED light on circuit board, 3 flashes then a pause. This indicates that even though I have ignition, the ignition is not sensed. Question --- How is the ignition sensed? Is it an optical sensor? Is it a thermocouple? Is it a bimetal strip? Could the problem be the circuit board?Things I don't see anymore?Remember those air foils bolted to trucks to improve aerodynamics when towing? Did they not work or do these plastic nose covers do a better job? Remember those roll out awning material covers installed over the slides? Don't see those anymore because??? Too expensive? no longer offer a benefit? Just wondering out loud here, if these things worked 15 years ago should we not have them today?Re: Planner Plodder vs On the FlyFor me this has changed as cell phone communication and internet search has become common. Back 17 years ago when I began RV'ing I would buy an annual camping guide with a list of subscribing RV parks. I would call two or three days in advance to assure I had a place to stay on a specific date. Today I will only reserve if I intend to stay for an extended period. Sometimes I get "burned" but normally I will not begin searching until mid afternoon on the day I am traveling. After more than 150 thousand miles of trailer towing, I've learned not to sweat the small stuff.
