The print is a nice idea too. We had that done too, when we lost Boomer at almost 17 last year. The paw print was then bronzed and put on a plaque. We also have his cremains in a nice wood urn/box with a photo of him on it. Unfortunately, we lost his companion last week at 16, and we are having the same done for Toby.Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story} ngraef wrote: Richard, I was so sorry to read of the loss of Fella, it just broke my heart. There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said :( Charlie sounds like a handful :) As far as the incontinence goes, I have first hand experience with that. When we got Riley from a rescue group at 11 months old, we were already her fourth home, we found out why soon enough, she would pee in her sleep. She would let us know she had to go out if she was awake; but just went if she was sleeping; naturally it was on our bed most of the time. Vet wasn't sure if it was spay incontinence or just poor bladder control. After ruling out any infections or kidney problems he prescribed Proin50. The directions called for twice a day; but the vet said to try just once a day and that did the trick. After she was on it for about a year or so, we took her off to see if she would be ok, and she was for about two years and then started having the problem again, so she's back on it and no more problems. Best of luck with him!!! Nancy Another Proin user here. Mackenzie, the Siberian Husky that was fortunate enough to meet Levi and Fella at Four Paws, had similar problems - she would piddle in her sleep. Our vet called it spay incontinence, even though she wasn't spayed too early. The vet just thinks she has a low estrogen level, which causes weakness in the muscles that hold in the pee. She gets a pill twice a day. We tried cutting back to once a day, but after she piddled a couple of times we went back to twice a day and no more piddling.Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Richard - Thank you for posting the photos of the prisoners working at the shelter. Working with animals is a truly wonderful way to help rehabilitate folks that have taken the wrong paths in life. There is something about working with and being responsible for animals that just stirs the soul. And the smiles on the inmates faces are just priceless!! We know you are still grieving, but it is such a joy to see everything that Fella inspired!!Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story} Dixie Flyer wrote: ... Fella is still all around me as I look at the booties and socks that are left behind and his bed in the family room and the bedroom that is empty. I can't find it in myself to move anything or put it out of sight just yet. One day at a time as Sue and I get use to life without Fella. ... My goodness - I have been away and just caught up on this thread. I am so sorry to hear about Fella's passing. I feel truly blessed to have met Fella, Levi, Suzie, Richard and Sue. What a wonderful family, and such an inspiration. My heart goes out to the family, and many prayers and cyber hugs for you and all the FOOFs. The void is a tough thing. When we lost our Boomer last fall, we had taken his bedroom pillow with us so that he could pass to the Rainbow Bridge while on his comfy and familiar bed, and we left it there with him at the vet's before cremation. But we still have so many other reminders still, after 7 months - his special, dog-sized couch in the living room, his living room pillow and I still have his photos displayed on my cubicle wall at work with the Bridge poem as a memorial. So you are not unique or alone in your feelings. Fella was a very special dog and you had a wonderful bond, and he will be forever a part of who you are. Many hugs and heartfelt prayers to you. CherylRe: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Oh my goodness, I just checked in and read the sorrowful news. I am so sorry to hear about Fella. He was truly a blessed dog having found Richard and Sue and joining their family. He has been well-loved by his family and people all over the world. He has touched so many hearts and inspired so many as well. I feel truly grateful to have met Fella and his family at one of the gatherings. What a wonderful treat! Dan and everyone else has said it so well, I am not sure what I can add except pass along my sympathy and cyber-hugs. Enjoy each coming day with Fella with love.Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}I hadn't been online in a while, and just checked up on Fella. Sorry to hear he is having some struggles. He is such a sweet boy! Sending many prayers for Fella and lots of cyber biscuits (zero calories!) We hope that he can conquer this recent issue just as well as he had all the others. He definitely has his guardian angels! CherylRe: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Oh my goodness! I have not been on the forums in a couple of weeks, being busy at work and home, as well as caring for our aged hound mix dog. On Wednesday evening, our Boomer (nearly 17 years old) went to the Rainbow Bridge with us at his side. We even brought his pillow for him to rest on. He had been steadily declining. His mind was sharp, but his body just couldn't keep up. Our vet was wonderful in guiding us, and helping us be very aware of how Boomer was faring. He was also absolutely wonderful during the painful process of saying goodbye. My husband and I have really taken it hard. Boomer was the first dog I have ever had. And he was also the first dog that my husband has had that was a "house" dog. I called Boomer my dumpster puppy because when I adopted him from the Humane Society at approx 10 weeks old, I was told he and his litter mates were found in a dumpster! Boomer has been the most wonderful companion, welcoming other dogs into the household in later years as well. Five years ago my husband even consulted with Boomer before he proposed to me, and my DH said Boomer gave his permission and blessing. So Boomer was very special to us. I am so grateful that he was able to visit Four Paws Kingdom last fall with our Siberian Husky, Mackenzie, when he was in better health. At that time he was almost 16, and we were told he was one of the oldest visitors to Four Paws!! I wished we could have brought him to the Old Fella Rally last August, but he was not very mobile at that point. Boomer will be greatly missed. While greiving for Boomer, I signed on here since I had been away for a while, knowing what wonderful people post here, wanting to read goofy stories and see the joy that pets give to their families. But then I was so saddened to read about Levi. My heart goes out to the Daniel's family. I know exactly how y'all feel since we are experiencing that right now. I am so grateful we were able to meet Levi last summer at Four Paws, and see what a truly gentle soul he was. I loved how he was a "velcro dog", leaning up against my legs while I was petting him. Richard and Sue, you were truly blessed to have that wonderful soul as part of your family, and he touched so many lives. His spirit is now free from the body that was failing him, and he is watching over your family. Many prayers to you all. CherylRe: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}That is so awesome! What a wonderful bunch of kids to do this for the Old Fella rescue!!Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}MOD - Congrats on the newest member of the family!!! She is just beautiful! CherylRe: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Thank goodness for the generosity of that foster home to take all the puppies!! It is so sad that people can be so heartless to dump puppies out like they were trash. Our Boomer, who is now 16 1/2, ws our dumpster puppy. He was found along with his littermates in a dumpster and brought to the Humane Society where we got him when he was approximately 10 weeks old. He has been the best dog ever, and we were sorry we couldn't bring him to the East Coast Rally to meet Fella. I am sure those two old guys would have had a lot to talk about! But Boomer is having a hard time getting around these days, and we didn't think the heat would be good for him. But he was there in spirit! Thank you so much Richard for all your efforts, and bless that foster family!!!
