Even with a 2500 or larger truck trying to stop on a slick road with no trailer brakes is a bit shakey. JohnRe: Can I tow my TT without a battery?Federal and state law requires any trailer over 2000lbs to have brakes and a functional breakaway system, whether electric, hydraulic or air brakes. That is of course for use on public roadways.Re: Transmission coolerWe have a 2008 F-150 with a 4.6 and the factory tow package. I have checked the external cooler temp many times with an infrared temp gun, and haven't seen temps over 160 yet. TT is a Jayco 26BH that goes 5300lbs ready to go. Admittedly we tow in Florida where it is pretty flat, and 60-62mph is plenty fast enough. And yes your trans should have come from the factory with MerconV which is synthetic. Service interval for the '08 is 100k, but I change mine every 30k. Oil is cheaper than a new tranny. JohnRe: Air BagsYou would be better off taking it to a truck or RV shop. It is best to take all of the weight off the suspension, and most people don't have that kind of jacks and jack stands at home. At the school bus garage I retired from, it was a half hour job on a bus lift, and they should be replaced in pairs. Good luck, JohnRe: Blowing tiresGet it checked at the frame shop of your choice. Don't forget that the right front wheel is the first one to get to the pothole, curb, roadside debris, etc. Therefore the most likely to be damaged. JohnRe: TV antenna,We have Winegard on our Jayco, and we get 40+ channels in the central Florida area. I tend to agree with handye9 that it may be a bad connection or the booster turned off. Or you are parked behind an obstruction, like a big metal building.Re: Weight Distribution hitch s/u with air bagsThe WDH's primary function is to distribute the weight. With that done correctly using a set of scales to get your axle weight right, your truck should be close to level. So the 10psi minimum inflation pressure should be right(do this first). Just my $.02Thoughts on TiresTime to replace the 255-65R-17 LTX- A/S Michelins on my f-150. Looking to go to 275-60R-17 BFG T/A's. Close enough to the same rolling diameter not to need a speedo change, add about 200lbs to the load rating, 10,000 mi more tread warranty, and they are cheaper. Any thoughts on this?Re: Can a automatic Dodge Raider be towed flatWe had a '87 Raider with the manual trans. When you put the transfer case in neutral, it locked the front and rear drive shafts together just like when in awd. It would not damage the transmission or transfer case, but you would be turning both differentials and drive shafts. It would hurt tv mileage, and increase wear and tear on your tires. The way I discovered this was trying to tow with a tow dolly. The Raider would try to drive off the dolly because the front wheels were engaged. Oddly enough you can tow them on a dolly backwards, with the trans in park, steering wheel locked, transfer case in 2wd. JohnRe: TV Pulls to right when hitched to trailerCheck that the brackets for the spring arm chains are even distance from the hitch ball. If they are not even, when you tighten the spring bars it will try to center itself.
