It has been working fine until today. Yesterday I changed the coolant in my generator thus I had to put load on the generator several times during the drain, flush, refill, etc. stages so I used the A/C to do this and it worked fine. I ran it off and on for well over 1 hour with no issues. Today I started my generator (worked fine) and decided I wanted the A/C on. It was almost 80 degrees F outside. I have a TrueAir Residential Control thermostat/control unit. It showed the ROOM temp to be 77 deg. F. The Fan Mode was in AUTO, FAN SPEED set to low. I clicked the control over to COOL and then pressed the SET TEMP BUTTON to 65 deg F just to get things running. But nothing happened. I was able to switch the fan over to MANUAL ON and it came on fine but the compressor would never turn on. It is a "basement" unit and nothing in the unit ever seemed to come on. The outside fan on the unit never came on. I'm baffled because it worked great yesterday and now suddenly this. I checked to make sure my circuit breakers were ON and they all were so nothing had tripped. Any ideas, thoughts, experiences would be appreciated.Re: 12volt DC vs 120volt AC questionThanks to ALL for the great comments. I think I understand now. For those who mentioned it, I indeed have an inverter/charger so I know its charging the batteries, etc. Special thanks to Dave Bishop who sent two links to a great article on the way the whole system works. I can see from there how the battery interacts with everything else.12volt DC vs 120volt AC questionI'm new to this RV stuff so bear with me and what is probably a very elementary basic question. I have many lights in my interior coach that are 12volt DC fixtures. I know when the coach is turned off and not connected to shore power or the generator running, then the lights are working off of my batteries. But if I have the generator on or am connected to shore power does the battery still get used to power these lights? In other words am I still putting a drain on the battery or does something switch over when it senses the 120volt AC and the battery is temporarily cut out of the loop?Re: I am giving away a Splendide Washer/Dryer comboThe unit is kinda heavy. I started to slide it out by myself then realized it was pretty hefty. But it is in a cabinet fairly easy to get to. Its in the general bath area between the bedroom and kitchen and two people can get one on either side. I'm not too concerned about getting it out. Only thing I don't know is how the LP gas is hooked to it. I'm assuming (certainly HOPING) that there is a cutoff valve right there in the cabinet against the wall where I can just turn it off once we slide the unit out. I've already turned off the water lines and detached them.I am giving away a Splendide Washer/Dryer comboI want to get rid of a Splendide 2000s washer/dryer combo that I inherited in a used Class A motorhome I recently purchased. I know that I will never use it and really would like to reclaim the space it is taking. I will donate free of charge on a first come basis. All I require is that you help me take it out. I don't think this will be too difficult. I've never used it and don't know much about it but was assured by my dealer at time of purchase that it did indeed work. Judging by the overall condition of the coach in general and the TLC that is apparent throughout I suspect this is a very functional working unit. Here is a link to a spec sheet I found online: http://www.splendide.com/wd2000s.htm I realize that this offer means you have to live reasonably close or be willing to travel here. I just hate to just ditch the appliance as it is in such good shape. Barry King 901-289-1355 I live in the Greater NEW ORLEANS, LA area.Re: New and ConfusedThanks all for such fast replies! Lots of your comments have been very helpful. Many are confirming what I already figured out and that is you have to be creative and imaginative. I'm starting to feel more comfortable as I get to know the rig and drive it some. Luckily it was in pretty good shape (other than the radiator problem) and even that is not 100% shot. I just have to keep the coolant topped off. Since I posted I have found a large diesel truck dealership who is willing to look at it. After the 1st of the year I'll be moving out to the west coast (San Diego area) and I am already finding more options for potential service in that area so if I can just get it to the west coast I think I'll be alright.New and ConfusedHello to all. Just bought a used diesel pusher 2003 Itasca Horizon (Winnebago). It seems to be in terrific shape with only 29,000 miles and has been well maintained (or so they said). The dealer proved to be just about useless. Gave me the typical sales pitch and essentially wanted me off the lot as soon as possible so they could move on to the next guy. But I am fairly mechanically inclined and I felt I could easily figure things out. But immediately (as I drove off into the sunset) I realized I was "in Kansas anymore!" I was in the diesel world and wow is it different from what I know about gasoline engines, maintenance, etc. I quickly realized that I'd need professional help with maintenance and also that I really really needed to establish a baseline as to where things are right now (oil, transmission fluid, coolant, etc) so that I could start following the manufacturers recommended maintenance (Catepillar engine, freightliner chasis, Allison transmission, ONAN (Cummings) generator). The BIG problem I'm having is finding people who actually do mechanic work on these type of vehicles. The small-time rv lots will do SOME things like change oil but checking out belts, hoses, spark arrestor on generator, radiator, etc. is proving complicated. My big question is what do most owners of diesel motor homes do for maintenance? Is there usually a single source or do I have to find a mired of "specialists" for each system on the coach? I immediately figured out that I have a radiator/coolant issue as I'm having to add water each time I take the unit out.
