Southwind Storm isWe need to find the correct parking brake cable (from the foot pedal to the linkage). I've pulled the shaft brake drum to check the shoes and found out that the cable coming through the firewall from the parking brake foot pedal is bad. The cable from the linkage to the brake shoes is ok. This does not have the hand operated lever but the foot operated one. 19.5 inch wheels. It'd be wonderful if a local supplier has one.1997 Chevy P32 parking brake cable. Southwind Storm isWe need to find the correct parking brake cable (from the foot pedal to the linkage). Need mounting infoAlso, I believe that there is now a new import tax on solar panels and they have gone up in price at least 30 to 50 dollars a panel. Two 100w panels are about 8.25 to 9 amps each with excellent sun for 16 and 1/2 to 18 amps total. So even if I don't get 400w from the generator, again, if I have 15 to 20 amps I'd be very satisfied. I am doing a test here where we are at as soon as I get the rest of the mounting mast finished. The drive on plate is a grand idea too. Planning on getting an anemometer and will do some Excel spreadsheet stuff to get a better Idea. I decided on 1 1/2" pipe for here for now. Anyone seriously looking to do this or wants to chat about it, PM me. Thanks everyone.Re: Adding a wind generator. Need mounting infoJohn Burke thank you so much for the very informative reply. The pole idea is a keeper and I'm going to research getting poles. I have a lot of light aircraft stainless steel cable from a previous tower job so probably will rig something using that and clips or what ever to secure it. I like the idea of the clamps to the ladder but suppose depending on location, I could use cable on 3 legs to the ground. I am planning on using screw in dog leash ground screws as I think they will provide the needed support (more research lol). As for wiring I chose an external controller for several reasons. First 3 wires from the generator is less amperage therefore less copper loss to feed the batteries. Second, heat is a killer and I want the heat at the battery, not in the generator. Third it gives more choices for smart controllers that you chose. The brake works fine as I've tested that. I agree, 20 amps for all night would be wonderful! Even if it's not 400w. And where we stay, there is very rarely a day there isn't 15 to 20 mph winds but the location is superb so we put up with the wind! Again thank you for the info and not bashing me because I have already bought and plan on using it. Can't see how it can be any more noise than generators!Adding a wind generator. Need mounting infoWe've been boondocking with solar and it works swell. We wanted to take advantage of the wind that is pretty constant and strong at a few places we stay. We got a 400W unit and it has a swivel flange mount. I can get a flange to bolt it to but am not sure what everyone that has one uses for pipe. What size? 1/2" black iron to small? 1" ? How about aluminum? Once I decide on the pipe size then I can get the flange and get it bolted up. I was thinking of making three 5 foot sections of pipe that screw together with couplings. They could be disassembled and then carried in the back of the Jeep toad. To assemble, screw them together, have a hole drilled through the coupling with a big cotter key to retain it. (one end of the coupling welded permanent). But do I put it against the ladder on the back of the Southwind Storm or make it self standing with guy wires or what? So in summary, wonder about pipe size and material and where you fasten it. Thanks SparksSolar panel fuseWe have a single solar panel that came with the RV from the factory. It is dead. I plan on adding Windy Nation panels and want to use the wires currently in place from that panel. This Southwind has nothing available for it and the support cuts off online at 1998 for downloads. Yes I called Fleetwood and all that is available is engine wiring diagrams. I imagine that there is a fuse some place inline with the solar panel. Also would help a lot to know where the panel wire goes since I have a solar controller to add in also. Has anyone tinkered with this? 97 Southwind Storm 35S Thanks SparksRe: Thermostat temperature sensorThanks! Found them. So is there wiring diagrams for this system anywhere? 97 Southwind Storm 35S.Thermostat temperature sensorI have a intellitec electronic climate control for my heating and air conditioning. Where is the actual temperature sensor for that located since the intellitech is mounted inside of the wall. I'm asking because the temperature variation is quite extreme inside of the coach. Has anyone successfully changed this out for a modern thermostat, for example and electronic one that we can set date and time for temperature changes?Re: Garmin and bad roadsI agree with Mockturtle. We've found that the human brain is still the best decision maker! Its wonderful to have the device able to warn you of upcoming lane changes and route changes and such. The long route planning is excellent too. Our experience is that we need to review the route carefully as our RV Garmin has tried to send us on some pretty weird goose chases numerous times. Things like getting off the main highway that's a regular truck route and taking a detour around for about 5 miles on a safe route but a two lane hilly excursion. And yes we have traffic on but there was no traffic. We had it take us on a turn around when we missed a exit that took us back under the highway in an area that we really should not have been (crime) and where we had nothing to spare on height. It also has taken us into the city in areas where turns and traffic were a nightmare. There was even a non existent road in Texas once. Note that this is set at quickest route also. I understand the limitations of map makers but just make sure you are the final decision maker after reviewing! I don't understand why Garmin doesn't make it like Google where it's easy for users to post updates for corrections!
