Removing old roof mounted air conditioner would permit three more 235 W panels (2100 W total then) which should allow Solar power only. Reef and ElaineRe: Mini Split Air Conditioner / Heat pumpWe are looking into mini-split for air conditioning on fifth wheel. Does anyone have photos of one of these systems on a fifth wheel. Our current standard air conditioner sticks up to far to replace two more 235 W solar panels (shading issue). Discussions in amps gets confusing when different folks are discussing 12 V, 47 V, 120 V, and 240 V systems. Watts would be a far more facile unit of power Reed and ElaineCrossing border around EasterWe are currently in Yucatan and will be crossing at Columbia Bridge near Laredo around 1 April. It was a three hour wait. When is the best date to cross. We were thinking Easter Sunday might have the lowest traffic. Should greatly appreciate recommendations Reed and ElaineMonarch butterfliesAny suggestion on where to stay to see the Monarch butterflies. Church's suggests Inn Minarcha as does a birding Guide we know from Patzcuaro. Any guiding services suggested? Should be there around 4 March Teed and ElaineRe: Huatulco and Zihnahuato (sic)Coloradotallman - thanks for the great information. Will check your blog later. Looked at Church’s and those parks and parking lots are there. We have a son and family in Fort Collins. Will be going up to Patzcuaro after the coastal jaunt for week or two Reed and ElaineHuatulco and Zihnahuato (sic)We are currently in Yucatan but plan to cross Isthmus if Tehuantapec in six weeks or so and go up SW coast. Any suggestions on RV parks in these two spots and anything in between. Have Churchs’ but it is out of date. Elaine is nervous about Acapulco. Teed and ElaineRe: Badly grounded power pedestalsMexicowanderer - we are on beach at Xpu Ha Near Tulum. You hit limestone two feet down. It is a short walk to seashore to fill a bucket with seawater and the pour around stake. No other US travelers at Xpu Ha. Currently Swiss (drove across Russia in 13 Days), Germans on way from Brazil, two couples from Quebec, one from BC, two Mexican RVers, two permanent Germans, in three weeks there have been: two French couples headed to SA, and a few more Canadians in Mexico for winter. We have seen no other Gringos since San Miguel Del allendeRe: Badly grounded power pedestalsMoisheh - we burned out a microwave in Baja and another in Yucatan due to crappy power. The voltage was going from 60 to 150 V. Son Cary and family were coming down (six years ago)and he brought battery chargers. He is a licensed master electrician and has been a licensed alternative energy contractor since 1991. We have only plugged in via battery chargers since then . The usable voltages are as discussed in one of the postings. Good chargers are expensive but well worth the Expense.Badly grounded power pedestalsA lot of power pedestals on Mexican RV parks are badly grounded which can lead to nasty electric shocks if chassis is touched. We put a grounding cable into frame attached to grounding rod. Did notice a slight shock even so but dry sand is not a good conductor. Poured sea water (we are on beach in Yucatan) around the rod and it works perfectly. The shock was so bad at Playa Azul that we never plugged in for the following three weeks up West coast of Mexico. Solar and LFP bank was sufficient for electrical requirements to include fridge on AC (2.5 kW PSWI) during day with propane at night.Re: Rancho La Mesa, Patzcuaro Heads Up!We have a 19' Roadtrek with a bustle on the back. There was no problem with this rig. The topes in San Cristobal de las Casas were huge and we cracked some fiberglass at about 0 mph.
