Red Green: Some men look at a problem like this and try to find a solution. I prefer to figure out whose fault it is and let them take care of it. I like the way this looks and it has a place for our bikes.Re: Adding generator to Fifth WheelThe carbon monoxide is what concerned us the most. I hadn't thought about the heat generated by the generator. I plan to have a locking roll back cover put on our truck bed, so if I can put a generator in the truck bed and it not interfere with the fifth wheel hitch, that may be the safest option for us.Re: Adding generator to Fifth WheelThank y'all for the replies. Where ever we put it will be where it has to stay because I don't think we can lift one of the generators we have looked at. I'm hoping to get a good one that's quite for around $2ooo. or less. The ones they have at Sams and Costco are rated at about 78 decibels and I've been told that would be too loud. I like the idea of putting it in the front compartment if that would be a safe place to use it. My husband says he thinks it would have to be vented and wasn't sure it could be put in there. Again Thank's to all of y'all. It's nice to have so many experienced campers that will share their knowledge.Adding generator to Fifth WheelWe are wanting to add a generator to our fifth wheel and want to know if it has to be put in a basket or something on the outside/back of the fifth wheel or can it be put in the basement while in use. I've noticed in motor coaches the are inside compartments either in front or under.Re: Truck too tall for 5th wheelWe have a 2011 Montana Mountaineer and are about to buy a 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel. Would you recommend we get a 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive? We are concerned about the height of the 4 wheel drive truck.Re: How long to learn to drive a Class A frankdamp wrote: Get an experienced driver to help you. I often recommend going to your local transit agency and asking if one of their instructors would do lessons in his/her leisure time. When I took up transit driving as a post-retirement job, it took just 3 days of 4 hours a day before I took and passed my CDL test. Within a couple of weeks, I was driving 40-foot coaches in rush-hour traffic. Your local school district would be another source of help. Any one who can hustle a 40-foot bus with 70 screaming kids on board through residential neighborhoods would have no problem showing you how to drive your rig on the highway. This is a good idea, (my son is a truck driver but won't be in town until Christmas) For several years I was a school bus driver so I understand what you talking about. I think maybe I will call one of my bus driving friends and see if they can let me ride along one day.Re: How long to learn to drive a Class AYou guys are awesome.Re: How long to learn to drive a Class ALoving the information I'm getting. How long to learn to drive a Class AWe are considering the purchase of a new Class A. (presently have a 37 ft. 5th wheel) We went on test drives in a new Georgetown (1st) and a Tiffin Breeze (2nd). I was loving the Georgetown on the back roads but then, we got on the interstate. Didn't enjoy that at all. Went back and got the Tiffin. Same thing. The salesman said he could tell I was used to rack and pinion steering. I'm wondering if I will get used to the feeling a swaying and the play in the steering. About how long did it take for you to get the hang of driving a Class A?Re: Battery usageThank you all for the great advice. My husband called GS back and they said the tow people should have moved us to a campground nearby. The tow truck driver told us he didn't know that. When we bought the GS policy I think we bought every option they had. We are still learning what to expect when we have to call. After they got the truck fixed we were on our way home and had a blowout that damaged the side of our 5th wheel. Another call to GS and an hour later someone showed up to change the tire. We are now back home (Alabaster, AL) tired but safe and dry having beat some pretty sever storms coming in from Mississippi. Again, thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I think when I put the RV in the shop I'm going to have a generator added.
