After researching the 1 ton vs 3/4 ton I seenot much difference price wise or size. Unless we somehow find a lighter 5 th wheel that my wife likes - I think the 1 ton is best choice. We aren't looking for something big, just heavy. It will be 34' or less. don dallasneed rough guideline for what size TV for a fifth wheelHi We are considering a new fifth wheel and truck. We only have a small TT and SUV now. I am wondering if there is a rough estimate as to when you will need a 1 ton or 3/4 ton truck. For example, a 5th wheel with dry weight of 10,000 lbs and hitch weight of 2200. I know the loaded weight is going to be more that that depending on what we take (we pack pretty light, and do not usually travel with water in the tanks) Best I can tell, this is going to be too much for F250 (my wife likes fords). So my question is at about what dry hitch weight range will the F350 be needed? Would it be fair to say over 2000 lbs, or maybe even less? TT are a little easier, max tongue weight on f150 is 1200 lbs, so any TT with a dry hitch weight under 900 should be no problem. Thank you DonRe: Sherline Tongue Weight Scale questionThe 620 came from subtracting the weight of truck with weight with the truck hooked to the trailer. I'll retry doing several readings and let the trailer settle on the scale more. I asked Sherline and they suggest I "nudge" the scale a bit, because as others of said, how the weight is sitting on the scale has a lot to do with the accuracy. Ill also make sure I have the blocks the scale is sitting on perfectly level and stable and see what I get.Re: Please check my TV/TT and WDh setupwe put about 900 miles on it last week, that is when the photo was taken. It pulls pretty well I think, but this is my first trailer, so I don't know what a perfect set up would pull like. We did get just a bit of porpoising on one road, but it could have just been the road. Would I lower the nose by removing or adding a washer to the hitch?Re: Please check my TV/TT and WDh setupphoto of TT and TV Please check my TV/TT and WDh setupComments on my WD setup please HI, We just bought our first trailer and I would like some help to verify that the WDH has been setup correctly and everything checks out. I took it to a scale after we loaded it for our first trip. WDH: Equalizer 4 point sway. 1000lb bars, 5 washers front fender height: no trailer : 33 3/8" trailer no WD: 33 7/8" trailer with WDH 33 5/8" TV: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel: payload: 1050 GVWR: 6500 GAWR: Front 3200 GAWR: Rear 3700 Max Trailer tongue weight: 740 Actual weight of empty vehicle full of fluids from CAT scale : 5160 lbs (I didn't get seperate axle readings) TT: Keystone Premier 19FBPR. I have a Sherline tongue weight scale, and weighing right at the trailer ball coupler, it only showed 560 lbs. I would think the scale should be more accurate, so wondering what I did wrong. The trailer was level and we did not move anything around in the trailer between the time it was weighed on the CAT scale and the time I weighed with the tongue weight scale. All the tanks were empty both times. All I can think is maybe I read the scale too soon after raising the tongue jack. thanks Dontongue weight questionsWe just purchased our first trailer. I bought a Sherline tongue weight scale. The scale is showing about 500 lbs at the head. I have an Equalizer hitch, the receiver head weighs about 55 lbs and each bar was about 18 lbs. Question: Do I include the weight of the hitch and bars as part of the tongue weight as far as determining if I exceed the limits of my vehicle? I plan on weighing the whole rig at the scales once we have it all loaded (its about 30% loaded now). Second question: When I do the third weighing with just the TV, do I leave the Equalizer receiver in the TV and the bars in it, or do I take all of that off? Thank you Donwhere to measure to determine if trailer is levelThis is my first trailer, I understand the importance of leveling the trailer. We did buy some of the lego blocks for under the wheels. I am wondering where do I put the level to determine if the trailer is level? Do I put it on the frame or maybe the side wall of the trailer, or perhaps the floor of the trailer? Once I get it level, I plan on placing a couple of the stick on levels on the front corner of the trailer. Thank you Donweighing first trailerWe are picking up our first trailer soon. There are CAT scales not too far away, I am wondering if there is a benefit to weighing the whole rig, even though the trailer will be empty (except the battery and propane). The TV will be similar to how we will tow, the two of us, our two dogs, and 50-75 lbs of other stuff. I also have purchased a sureline tongue weight scale. We will be going on our first loaded trip in a week or so, I can weigh everything then, but not sure how much patience the DW will have at the truck stop with the trailer loaded and ready to go. one other question regarding the second and third readings (WDH unhooked and trailer unhooked). Do I leave the receiver shank connect to the TV receiver? The dealer is installing a Husky Centerline TS hitch, which looks similar to the Equalizer. Do I remove the weight distribution bars and place in the back of the TV (a Jeep Grand Cherokee) for both the second and third readings? thank you
