Found one deeded community at 55+ but realtor does not respond or return calls. Two others, both slide to slide. Literally, looked at one with 15" between slides. Several very nice parks in this area, Coastal Breeze is a fave, but not 55+. Update: took an overnight to the RGV! Viewed several mentioned parks here, including the famed Retama Village. It is very nice. However, the "rv resorts/parks" are mostly old, tired and 90% mobile homes. Some were neat and clean, others just scary. All friendly. Have found a couple that would do for a short time, but most are slide to slide. Rates good, but again, tired. May go back down again for a day or two and hunt some more. Definitely don't want to be on the Coastal Bend during the summer months. Even though I broke down and bought a fishing pole. ??.Re: Any RV parks left in RGV?Thanks Tom and Alfred.... To answer your question Tom, I'd rather, if they want full time mobile homes, that they stop calling themselves RV parks. It's disheartenong to drive into a place that looks great on their website only to find they are 90% mobile homes and bumper to bumper. Mobile homes are not RVs and they are not even Destination or park models. But you're right, the steady income is appealing to a lot of owners. Just wished they'd call it what they are. Thanks for the ideas Alfred, we'll check them out. Have heard of Victoria Palms from a couple of folks.Re: Any RV parks left in RGV?Thanks Scottiemom. I did look up Mission West and will check it out. I don't mind some park models or even mobiles if park is well kept. But I want some SPACE. I hate slide to slide.Re: Any RV parks left in RGV?Thanks for the responses, pawatt and trailernovice. I did mean McAllen...spell check strikes again. There are about 4000 places down there. ?? We are going to visit, in fact, in just a month or so. Plan is to stay in area and view. Green Gate Grove looks nice, but again, a mix of stick built, mobiles and rv lots. We'd like something age restricted to adults (55+) and a true RV Resort. Retama Village is on the radar, pricey, but might fit the bill in the end. We looked at Harlingen, same issue. All mobile home parks with "RV spaces in places". Would like to find generous sized spaces for RVs. Again we are 43' pkus long bed truck so we know we're locked out of some older parks. Brownsville is not on the plan, at this time anyway...but thanks for all the info and suggestions.Any RV parks left in RGV?Anyone out there with recent and firsthand knowledge regarding Mission and Mcalister areas of the RGV? Are ALL the RV parks and resorts now also mobile home parks? We cannot seem to find a nice park with activities that still caters to full time RV'ers. Even professionally managed resorts are 70% or more mobile homes. And they are packed in! The RV's get shoved into tiny little spaces with no room to breathe and slides almost touching. Any suggestions welcome and appreciated. We're looking for a full time base for our 43' rig but would appreciate storage for our travel trailer on site or nearby. :)Re: Stargazing in TexasTry Copper Breaks State park at Quanah Tx. It is a certified Dark Skies park.Re: Motorhome Entry StepsHad the same thing happen to me recently. Mobile tech diagnosed problem as a bad controller, Replaced both controller and motor, old motor still good, and steps work great. Check Amazon for these parts. Price very good and shipped same day as order.Re: RV inspectionsWhat type of inspection are you talking about? Have had our motor home safety inspected along with car for several years. Is this on trailers? Have heard State troopers have begun to enforce trailer inspections.Re: Looking for some help with electric steps......UPDATE.Recently had failure of my Kwikee steps. Would not extend or retract. Tech diagnosed problem as the control box. He also advised replacing the motor at the same time. Said if motor seized it would burn out new controller. Went to Amazon and got both for about $175.00 with 2 day shipping. replaced both and worked great. Did find that the gear box plate had been shoddily installed, 2 self tapping screws instead of carriage bolts on one side. Removed gear assembly, straightend plate and replaced carriage bolts.Good Sam Insurance Offer not as presented?Well...we left GS insurance about 3 years ago after getting a huge rate increase for no reason at all. So, policy about to renew in July...got letter in mail from Good Sam offering great discounts, 6 companies to chose from...etc. Ok, called to give them a shot at offering a quote. Can't hurt to see what's out there, and maybe go back to GS. First, its an independent broker, NOT Good Sam. Then, after telling her we are full timers, 365 days a year, she says she was looking at Safeco. Safeco is a company that doesn't offer full timer coverage. Apparently she didn't know this? When I asked about full replacement coverage on older unit as per the letter I received, she said no, that our 6 year old RV was too old to qualify. Then she wants to know what I'm paying now she says she needed that to get a quote, after telling her I wasn't going to divulge that information at this time for quote, she lost interest and said she was trying not to waste her time or mine. Now I know why I left GS for my insurance needs, why I won't go back to GS for my insurance needs and why I will warn others not to fall for this letter. Shame on GS for this little farce. Finally, no matter how many times I tell GS to STOP mailing me this stuff, I keep getting it. Now it goes into the trash unopened.
