All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsNC to Carlisle PAWe are heading to Maine in mid June from FL. Our route takes us up I95. First night in Brunswick Ga and second night at Raleigh Oaks in Four Oaks NC, We will be heading up I95 and cutting over to I81 to avoid toll roads and major cities. Previously, we have cut over from Richmond on I64. This time we were routed on 17, Exit 33 in Fredricksburg VA to I66 to I81 and up to Carlisle PA for our 3rd stop. What type of hwy is 17 out of Fredericksburg? Busy? Is there nay other route that might be better? Do not want to get near DC. Thanks JudiRe: Best Route NorthHere's how we do it to Cape Cod: We go I81 to I 84 over the Beacon Newburgh bridge (that's our only toll) then in CT, off 84 just past Waterbury) we take I691 then to 66 (Middletown) then South on 9 to I95. That will bring you just south of New London and then up 95 through Providence RI to 195 to the Cape. We have taken many routes to get to 81 over the years. This year we plan to take I17 across to Front Royal and then up to 84. JudiRe: Best Route North Mich F wrote: Last June I drove up north from South Florida. I got off I 95 in Fredericksburg, VA. on route 17 which turns into 50 I believe, and followed that to I 81. Took that up to I 84. Stayed on that into CT and got back on I 95. There are a number of ways to do that part. The only toll I had was on a bridge crossing from PA to Newburgh, N.Y. I believe it was $9.50 for my MH towing a truck. We plan to take this route in June. My question is: what are the roads like between Fredericksburg and Front Royal? We have always cut across from Richmond to I81 on I64. Looks as if 17 to 15 to I66 might be the better way to go. Thanks JudiRe: Sturbridge MA campgrounds/overnight mdcamping wrote: About 1 HR west from Stubridge on I84 is Bear Creek Campground About 2Mile off I84, easy in/out large W/E sites. Mike Thanks Mike. Made reservations today. Never knew that CG existed. Checked RV Park Reviews--got a little concerned about the noise and odor that some complained about but one night won't kill me. JudiRe: Sturbridge MA campgrounds/overnight Crowe wrote: also don't think you would have any trouble on the pike in Charlton there are always RV mixed in with the trucks. We see them but they could just be resting and not staying overnight. Those are for truckers, not RVers, and it's not fair to them to take their spaces when we can go elsewhere. I agree. We are looking to get to the Sturbridge area on Thursday June 14. I guess that the Bristol Ct. CG will be the best, although the reviews are so so. Thanks for all the help and if anyone has any further thoughts please let me know. JudiSturbridge MA campgrounds/overnightWe are looking for a place for one night somewhere around Sturbridge MA. I just called Wells State Park and you have to stay 2 nights prior to July 1 and at $27 for a non-resident I would hate to book 2 nights and forfeit $27 for a place with no water, electricity or dump. I've been on RV Park Reviews and Yogi has bad ratings. Would the rest area on the MA Pike in Charlton be an option or is there somewhere else that I am missing. We will be in a 30' Class A towing. Ct. seems not to have anything on 84. Thanks JudiI84 Rest AreaIs the rest area on I84 in Danbury CT. open to spend an overnight on the way to Maine? I know that you could pull in there in years past, but how about now? Anyone been there recently? Thanks JudiRe: Heading to Maine from Florida CloudDriver wrote: We did an overnight at Wells State Park at the junction of I84 and I90 in MA on the way to Maine a few years back. No hookups and no long sites there, but a quiet place. That is a possibility although they don't have a dump any longer according to their website. We are 31' with a tow. I will call them when they open to see if they have a site that we will fit in--preferably a pull through. ThanksHeading to Maine from FloridaEvery summer for the past 7, we have headed to Maine from Florida. Instead of stopping off in MA to visit relatives, this year we plan to head directly to Maine. We need to find a campground somewhere around Matamoras/Milford PA, Last year we stayed at Tri-State RV Park and it was horrible. Like sleeping on I 84 with all the truck noise. Has anyone stayed at RiverBeach Campsites in Milford? I checked RV Park reviews and the ratings were not great. We have stayed at Promised Land State Park in the past. Kind of far off 84. Am I missing anything? I was also looking near Sturbridge but Yogi Bear was too expensive for a one night stay. Thanks JudiFort TiconderogaWe are planning a trip to Ticonderoga. Can anyone recommend a good campground near the Fort. Full hookups if possible. We plan to stay 3 days and then head to Maine. Thanks Judi
