It has 60K miles and in great shape. This truck has a GVWR of 11,500, Rear GAWR of 8,350 and Front of 5,200. We are looking at a Heartland Road Warrior fifth wheel, toy hauler. It has a GVWR of 18,000 and a dry weight of 14,090. The hitch weight of the RV is 3,200. I am new to the fifth wheel world and am trying to determine if my truck can handle this trailer? I wanted to see if folks had some insights that could help us make the right decision. If you need more information, please let me know. Thanks again for any advice you might have.Re: Fiver TV - 2002 F-350 Lariat 7.3L Diesel DuallyThanks so much for all your input, it has been helpful. I have learned that truck loyalty is like gang loyalty, except even tougher! I have an offer on this truck http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LARIAT-7-3-/271207216138?_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&forcev4exp=true Currently, it is in the bay of a good Ford Service department getting poked and prodded. My price of $25K for this truck with only 30K miles on it since 2004 is perfect for me. I know that there are alot of pros and cons but I think for me, it is a no brainer. Thanks so much for all your input.Fiver TV - 2002 F-350 Lariat 7.3L Diesel DuallyHi, I have been told by my mechanic (who I trust a great deal) that the 7.3L Diesel in the 1999-2003 F-350 is just about the best Diesel you could get and the trucks are incredible (he has a 1999 that he swears by). I have found a 2002 Dually, crew-cab with this 7.3L in it and am close to pulling the trigger. We will be pulling a 41 FT fiver(still looking) but have been told that this truck is a beast and we should be in really good shape regardless of what we select. I wanted to open myself up to the wisdom (and perhaps scorn) of the forum by asking what you all think? I am thick skinned, let me have it. Thanks!@ Kevin2002 F350 Lariat with 7.3L DieselWe have heard from our trusted mechanic that if you want the best diesel in a TV, go with the 7.3L in the F-350 from 1999-2003. We have found one in great shape, only 75K miles and sweet price. Our intel is that this thing is a towing beast and we cant go wrong with it. Any thoughts on this TV from the forum would be really appreciated. Thanks!Re: 5th Wheel for a Large Family - Full TimeIf you read the entire post, you will see that seatbelt are covered. I would not take my children without them.Re: 5th Wheel for a Large Family - Full TimeWe are all very excited and the kids too. They are involved in the planning and are all adventurous. It has been so funny to get so many people telling us why NOT to do this. My question is, why wouldn't we do it? We have the means to do so. We can spend a month in San Diego on the beach, then go to Solstice in Alaska and then make our way across the country to New England. My question is, if you could do it, why wouldn't you? Just because it would be a little cramped? In a year, we can either have a year full of wonderful, albeit crowded adventures, or we could stay here in Tallahassee FL going through another year of the status quo. While I am sure we would be happy enough here, it really is a no -brainer to us. We do plan on blogging/Tweeting the whole experience, kids too. We have entereed into an agreement with the school district to stay connected virtually to the classes and allow the kids to be roving "reporters" back to the classrooms. We are most excited. Thanks to all who have positive input and suggestions to us, we welcome them.Re: 5th Wheel for a Large Family - Full TimeGreat question on the TV. We will be buying a Diesel Dually with lots of power and a 8foot bed. We will be having http://www.cowtownsleepers.com add a sleeper unit to the truck and makes a club crew truck comfortably seat 8 (especially when young). We have already talked with them and they are ready to go once I buy the right truck (in progress now). The extra seat they will add has seatbelts and they have alot of experience with getting these trucks ready for large families that pull fivers. The Reese Sidewinder will be mounted on the truck as the pulling device.5th Wheel for a Large Family - Full TimeMy wife and I are going to take our 5 kids on the road for a year+ to get out of the rat-race. Luckily, I have a great job that allows for me to work remotely and I am all set on that. After a lot of work, we think that for our family, a 5th wheel is the way to go instead of a Class A. We have worked out the towing logistics as we are going to purchase a Ram Heavy Duty Diesel and getting it customized with a sleeper bench so we can sit all comfortably. We are going to rig this with a Reese Sidewinder for towing. So what I wanted to ask the group is, if anyone has some recommendations for a large fiver that can sleep my family comfortablable (4 boys 6, 6, 10, 12) and my daughter 10. We like the concept of using a toy hauler that has drop down bed(s) and can covert into quality living space in the day. We also like the 1/2 bath in the back and a space for a 2nd fridge and washer/dryer stack. I know that the market is full of options but we are new to the 5th wheel world and wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions? THanks in advance for any ideas you might have. KevinDealerships in Tampa Fl AreaWe wanted to see if folks had some suggestions for dealers in the Tampa area we can visit. We are starting out in the market for a Class A Pusher and want to become more educated by walking through some units. I know Lazy Days is there and we will hit them just because of the inventory they carry. Are there other dealers anyone would recommend we hit? Thanks!
