It was hard for me to let the MaxLITE TT go, Had a good 12+ years and I knew how to fix everything. A few questions so far: Scare light - Where is it? I have the touch panel. Only thing I can figure is there is one light above the sewer compartment about a foot down from the roof that I can't get to work. I missed it in the PDI I guess. AirBags? What's a good pressure to start with? I have 60psi currently. I have a "Tank Heater" button on the touch panel. My build sheet doesn't show having any. If the button is there, does that mean I have them? I have the 4 door Dometic refrigerator - right side refrigerator door is a pain in the a$$ to open....can that be adjusted? Finally - Do you all run with 80psi in your tires all the time? Not a big fan of the power awning. I like my old one. I could tilt it for rain runoff. More questions to come.....I can assure you. Thanks in advance2018 Forester 3011DSWell, in a week I'll have our new 2018 Forester 3011DS. Had to look around a bit to find one with all the options we wanted. Wish me luck. Any horror stories from Forest River owners or advice on what I should look for when I go pick it up? Trading in the 2006 MAXlite. Tired of towing and all the setup. Going to setup the 2003 TJ as a toad..... Thanks in advance for any input.Re: Houston to New York (New Jersey) Second Chance wrote: Enter the route on Google maps and follow the Interstate route suggested. We have driven all of it without any problems (if you don't count the concrete parts of I-10/I-12 in Louisiana). I'll have to say, though, I don't think I'd make that long a haul for a four night stay - but that's just me. Rob It's a full 2 week vacation for us, NYC is only 4 days of it. I almost enjoy the journey more than the destination(s). ...and thank you for your service to our country...Re: Houston to New York (New Jersey) DrewE wrote: The obvious route to me looks like Interstates 10, 59, 75, 81, and 78. I don't think there are any tolls along that route offhand, though it's possible I'm forgetting or missing a bridge or two. I'd probably spend time in Philly before Pittsburgh, but that's just me. Kennywood (south of Pittsburgh) is a very nice amusement park if that sort of thing is to your liking. If you don't have an EZPass transponder, getting one will make navigating the toll roads and bridges that much easier (and usually cheaper). We are Steelers fans and have never been to Pittsburgh....so here we go....Just spending 2 nights there then moving on to Chicago.. Thanks for the help..Houston to New York (New Jersey)Okay, I'm dragging our trailer to NY this summer with the family and I'm looking for any tips or advice that will help me. I'v been to DC and DisnyWorld with it with no issues. Just more toll-roads and tunnels up there. Looking for the simplest route. We are staying @ Liberty Harbor RV. I know it's just a parking lot, but can't beat the location. We don't have any reservations for the trip up. Just plan on calling around when we get tired. Taking 3 nights to get up and go through Pittsburg and Chicago on our way back. 4 night in NJ. Thanks in advance.Re: Axle/tire UpgradeUpdate: So, an update as to what I have done. 1st attempt was a tire/wheel/springs/hanger upgrade. I went with new wheels and tires. Went up to "D" range tires and 15 inch rims. Still on 5 lug wheels. I upgraded to 2550# springs and Dexter's heavy duty equalizer kit. That went well except that I actually had a bent axle. My passenger side front tires was out a little at the bottom and pulled in on the top. I thought it was something wrong with my install, but no....the axle was bent. I have now purchased 2 new 3500# axles and installed them. Everything looks straight now. We'll see. The only thing I can think is that when I had my blowout last summer, the sudden drop was too much for the remaining axle and it bent it. It's was the axle that didn't blow a tire. Anyone ever seen that before? Again, trailer weighs 6400# on the 2 axles. Thoughts?Re: Axle/tire UpgradeI'm very capable of working on this as I have a vast array of tools and knowledge. I've swapped engines and such and I pretty much work on and fix everything I own. Having said that....here's what I decided. I've done a lot of research, I'm not going to replace the axles, I'm upgrading the springs and bushings/equalizers. Dexter has a "wet bolt" HD bushing kit that eliminates the nylon bushings and uses bronze bushings with grease-able bolts. I didn't want to have to "special order" the 5200# axle with the correct spring and hub face dimensions and then they would have to move the spring perches to the top since the spring in over-slung. Not going there, at least for now. Trailer has been great for the last 11 years. Why change now. I'm told by some that I can straighten the hanger with a really big crescent wrench. I'll give that a try. I'm also going to weld in some metal brackets to stabilize the hangers. I have a plasma cutter on my X-mas list. I always wanted one. Advice on which one to get is very much accepted. I'm looking at a Hobart. Then I'll order some 15 inch wheels with my 5 lug pattern and get me some E rated tires. This will allow me to still upgrade to a bigger axle in the future. Of course I also need to crack open the drums and fix the brake wiring, (wires pulled out with my last tire blowout) but I need to repack the bearings and replace the seals anyway. thoughts and advice always accepted ....... and happy Friday.... Wish me luck.....Re: Axle/tire UpgradeNo new RV for us, our next trailer will be a Class C or Class A...and that's not anytime soon with 2 kids in college. I think I might go with 5200# axles and the Dexter E-Z flex System with wet bolts. I'm a very avid do-it-yourselfer. I flipped the axles about 5 or 6 years ago for more height and put new nylon bushings back in. Mistake on my part. I'll also go with the 6-5.5 lug wheels so they will match my 24foot car hauler. I might also reinforce the spring hangers as I have a mig welder. Might give me a good excuse to get a plasma cutter!!! Thanks for the advise....all opinions welcome...Axle/tire UpgradeOkay, I've blown 3 tires in the last 5 trips. I had Maxis 8008 14 in tires. Yes, the tires were about 7 years old, but I'm tired of only being able to get "C" rated tires. My rig weighs in at about 6,600lbs. on the axles and about 800# tongue weight. It has 2 Dexter 3500# axles. I would like to upgrade to 5200/6000lbs. axles and put some "E" rated tires on it. Has anyone ever upgraded their axles on their rig? I'm look of a better "comfort" factor. We're taking a trip to NY next summer and want to minimize having any tire/suspension issues. Thoughts? ...also, my passenger side rear spring hanger is bent in slightly (about 1/4in). This makes the rear tire on the TT lean out a little on the top. Any ideas on how to straighten it. Can it be "bent" back in place? Thanks in advance...Re: ~Post your campsite photos here~21 pages and no Ft. Wilderness(Disneyworld) photos? I know there out there......I need to see where I'm going this summer.....@ $3 a gallon, or more...... Camp on......
