Before buying a fifth wheel, the thing that really scared me to death was what I was reading about Lippert weld and frame failures. My thought was with all the frames Lippert builds, the odds would be in my favor that I would not get one. WRONG. Last year a small crack appeared and I kept close eye on it. It started to run and knowing things like this don't tend to fix themselves I decided to have it repaired ( had damage due to a tire blowout but that's a story for a different day)since I had other damage. All there efforts failed and in their opinion something happened to the frame to cause this much tourqe a weld failure or a break. My call to Keystone yielded a denial of any claim proved to me beyond a reasonable doubt that it was a forgone conclusion. My question is this. Since this is not as rare as I thought. What are my options? I request that only people who have dealt with this respond with what they tried and what options are most likely to succeed. I'm retired so I'm prepared to take this to a final conclusion if I can find a successful path. PS if you would like to speak to me off the record, please Private Message me. Torque Specs on Fifth Wheel lug nutsJust got back from getting a leak patch on my fiver tire. They are goodyear marathons E rated on alluminum rims. Does anyone know what the torque specs are or where I could find them?Anti Freeze getting into hot water heaterI have a Surburban Model SW12DE hot water heater. It's time to winterize and for the second year in a row antifreeze is getting into the hot water heater. From what I can tell I have a single by pass shut off value and that is turned and anti freeze is going through the bypass pipe that goes to the cold port. I don't think there is a second by pass value but don't see one. Could the check valve be bad on the hot water exit. Any Help would be appreciated.Re: Difference between Jayco and Keystone, Need some quick adviceI owned a Jayco trailer as my first unit. As many have said the good news is Jayco has a two year warranty, the bad news for me was I needed every day of it. It spent more time at the factory getting a new 33ft side redone and reinforced A frame, 3 different sets of axles. On and on and on. A lot of problems were from outright poor engineering. I have a Keystone and have had my issues, the major issue I use it so often that mine revels problems that others may take years to find out. No matter what you get IMHO it's a **** shoot when quality is concerned. I'm on a 5 week trip now and already have started my list of things to fix when I get back.Decal Adhesive RemoverWhen at home my fiver faces due south. So my cap decals are cracked and look like ****. Putting on a new decal is going to cost big bucks with much of that being the labor to remove the old decal. This I think I can do myself. Since I'm retired time is not an issue. What I do need help on is from people who have done this before, what is an adhesive remover that actually WORKS based on your experience? Thanks in advance for your reply. To insulate or not to insulateI've had to remove my underbelly to reattach it because water got in and soaked the fiberglass insulation that acted as a sponge and stretched it to the point it popped off the screws in the frame. The underbelly was "heated" with open ducts located on what was the top of the old insulation. Since we don't do any cold weather camping, at this point I'm inclined to not put any insulation back inside and close off the ducts. "if" I do decide to insulate again it will be with insulated sheeting. Thoughts please.Re: Cold weather effects on RefrigeratorsDometic switched over to gas to see if that would help. Have read on other places that some heat was necessary to help with the evaporation process of coolingCold weather effects on RefrigeratorsI don't know if this has been covered previously, it's crunch time and I don't have time to research. It has been in the low 20's at night and the 30's for the last few days. Heading for Florida tomorrow and my refrigerator is not performing as in the past. It is struggling for the freezer to get below 20 deg. Does cold weather have an impact on the performance of gas/electric refrigerators? Thanks in advance.Re: Steadyfast InstallI put a complete set on a travel trailer and one bar on the rear of my fiver because it came with JT's on the front. (Was going with Steadyfast all the way around but Keystone offered the JT's with a package deal)Pretty strait forward install with most of the work coming from drilling the holes in the I beam. Just get the best bits for steel you can find.Re: Where do you get damage fixed from case of Cranial Rectosis How did you "clip the rear end of a tractor trailer"? I was moving around in a truck stop and was going around a parked tractor trailer and didn't swing out wide enough and caught the right rear of the trailer.....after 36k miles of towing it was a dumb mistake and I'm still mad I did something so stupid. Now I am trying to focus on continuing our trip and getting it fixed when I get home in a few weeks.
