Get Goodyear HMG 2020 bias 8 ply tires designed specifically for U-Haul. Tough as heck and a smooth ride. Best tire ever for a trailer in my opinion. Forgot to mention. If you Google the tire and see a picture of them with "mud tire" looking tread, that is not what the tread looks like.The tread looks like any other trailer tire tread.509Views0likes0CommentsRe: Toy hauler tongue weight
Thanks to all for your replies. otrfun, I do have the 5.7 with towing package, but you (and others) bring up some very good points. I have always wanted a diesel pusher and had planned to go this route in about 3 years but I thought this Toy Hauler to be an interim option --if-- I didn't have to invest the money in a new truck. Alternatively, I could just go ahead now and buy a used (2002-2005) diesel pusher coach a tow a stacker trailer. I figure that if I have to buy a new truck, along with the Toy Hauler I might as well get in a used diesel pusher and stacker now for about the same $$.505Views0likes0CommentsToy hauler tongue weight
I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra and am thinking of getting a KZ MXT 309 toy hauler TT. The gross weight of the MXT is 8800 lbs with a tongue weight (dry) of 900 lbs. My Tundra has a GVW of 7100 lbs with a payload of ~1500 lbs. Will the weight distribution hitch transfer some of that tongue weight to the trailer axles? If so, will it help the situation a measurable amount? Will having a 1000 worth of "toys" in the rear of the MXT also take off some of that TV tongue weight? We really like the MXT 309 except the DW doesn't like the extreme lack of kitchen counter space. One thing I'm curious about also is that the hitch tongue is extraordinarily long. I didn't measure, but it looks to be twice the normal length. Any thoughts as to why it would be so long, and what impact this would have on towing? Thoughts on KZ quality in general?
