That little engine is about as close to diesel performance as you can get in a gas engine and with a lot less cost. What does effect the F150 is the frame and braking. Because I am at heart a very conservative person and like to enjoy driving safely; I would be very critical of any of the half tons towing a total weight of 11,000 lbs. Now that might change with the 2015 F150 with reinforced frame and Alum. composite body. Its supposed to put the F150 close to Chevy and Dodge 2500's. If it does I think Ford will then use the composite body on the HD's to boost those numbers. Remember a lot of this is driven by the EPA for better gas numbers. Still waiting on the build sheets for the F150's. They should be on their web site by now but are not.Re: Travel Tow Capacity for Ford Expedition EL2015 Expy now up to a tow weight of 9,300 lbs when properly equipped. Most likely because this is this 1st year with Eco boost engine. If all goes well with 2015 F150 release you will probably see the same things done to the Expy as with the F150 in future model years. Composite Alum. body and reinforced frame giving more payload.Re: Minnie Winnie 25B Sale PriceJust noticed that side panels of Coachman is made of composite materials. Would that also be a plus? I have seen quite a few C's and A's down here with bubbles on exterior panels. Possible sign of delamination.Re: ford ecoboostI think it all comes down to what you want and need. People in different circumstances with different needs will make different choices. Its not an all size fits one. I am retired and camping is a hobby. We might take extended vacations now but the longest trip we have envisioned will be 30 to 90 days. We are also now on a fixed income and don't want to put all of our assets into our hobby. In addition it might be we will go to a one vehicle family sometime in the future. If its our everyday runner I do not want to spend all my money at the gas station. Sorry but back to the subject. If you know that you are going to pull a 7,500 lb trailer and you know what your budget can comfortably handle with enough left over to still enjoy the hobby you should do okay. Just one more thought, we keep our vehicles on average 8 to 10 years and always buy new. Will that truck work well for you 3, 4, 5 years or longer down road?Re: Thor 22E and price you've paidIf you are going to buy new, this is a good time to pick up a new 2014 at some of the best prices of the year. Better hurry though as the more popular models are selling. Just noticed a Thor Fourwinds 24C on sale at less than $52,000 that I had been watching but just listed as sold. It was a Ford 350 and did have generator. It was not a stripped down model.Re: ford ecoboostIf you do not buy now you might want to wait and check out the 2015 F150 as it is going to have more payload, re-tuned 3.5 Ltr, reinforced frame and 700 lbs lighter due to composite body. On the other hand you might get a better deal on a 2014 as the 2015's come out. I hope its not all hype as I have been considering trading my 2007 F150 in for a new 2015. I am not in a hurry as the 2007 still runs great but I too am looking for a bit more payload. JeffRe: Light weight TTs: how do they hold up when boondocking? If you are going with the 150, make sure you do wait for the 2015. Ford is using composite body and reinforced frame. It should have a higher payload rating. As a matter of fact its payload will be close to the 3/4 ton Chevy and Dodge. Also, if you are going to do off the grid camping I would recommend to stay closer to 26' trailer.Re: Newbie to towing with questionWe used our 2003 Jeep Liberty to tow our highwall pop-up for a few years. The pop-up weighed around 3,000 lbs. loaded and the Jeep would pull it but it was light in the front. My wife did not like to drive when we went camping. You are going to try to pull more weight and you will also have drag and side wind effects to deal with using the Jeep. I would not recommend this setup.Re: Advice from current or past Livin Lite owners, similar TTsDual axles, less sway which is important for a lighter TV or for that matter any TV. Pulled a heavy, high sided popup with single axle for a few years but have noted when pulling a heavier travel trailer I had more stability with the trailer with 2 axles.Re: I need a new truck Dodge, Ford or Chev ????Hold off if you can until 2015 models come out. Check out new F150's. New light weight F150 with Alum. alloy body cutting 700LBS. Choice of 4 engines from 2.7 and 3.5 Eco's, re-aspirated 3.7 standard six and a very reliable 5.0 V8. The 2.7 is new and the 3.5 is basically retuned for better pulling and gas mileage. I am thinking the Eco engines will be at or around 30MPG with increased max towing and more torque without the need to go diesel. I try to keep my trucks 8yrs or longer and when I buy I look for these bench marks.
