Other than tires what makes an A so much more expensive to operate and maintain?Re: A V/S C D.E.Bishop wrote: I would add one thing to what wildtoad said, Class C's Drivability is better. By that I mean, it feels more like driving a car or SUV and generally women feel more at ease driving a C. Interesting! Yesterday a salesman said equal length the A was better handling and turned tighter better on curvy mt. roads. He was trying to us either as he had both. Didn't think he had a dog in that fight.Re: A V/S C MountainAir05 wrote: If you are not able to hook up the TT then how are you going to do the same with a class A or C. Plus if you tow that will be more to do. Good luck. Motor home: no wheel chocks, no spring bars , no safety chains , no emergency break cable , no stabilizers, no sway control , no brake/light electric cable All dealt with either bending over or on hands and knees.:RA V/S CDue to age / health my tt is becoming a bit much for me with the hookup and setup. Thinking of a motor home rather than quitting. Has any one done a pros and con comparison between As and Cs of the same length ? Does one have the advantage over the other? Who cares how many fail as long as they eliminate the big claims of fire and personal injury? Someone please correct me if I'm speaking out of turn, but based on the information they've made available thus far, this is the only logical conclusion I can come to. Starting to sound like their lawyers and bean counters are calling all the shots. Tim :S If they had not got caught do you think we would be even reading about the failures? The failures started a long time ago. I am wondering about the Dometic phone jockeys. One poster says they told him he needs the packet. Another the VIN number. I was told to find an authorized repair station and go for it.:hRe: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07I guess I am kinda dense here. The thermal cutoff device and high heat alarm seem a bit useless to me. As I understand it, when the weld breaks is shoots the ammonia/hydrogen fuel out at high pressure. It would be almost like spraying gas in the back of the refrigerator. If it should flash, it will be a fire bomb. What you are doing is like re-designing a car to keep the front tire from going flat when the back axle might fall off.Re: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07 Crabbypatty wrote: I have been reading all of the great info on this thread. Thanks for all the input we do have some very capable rvers out there. I just got off the dometic hotline and registered. No kits will be shipped until after the 1st. then they will replace it. They said abo****ley NO GAS (ditto timsrv) But we are still going to MB for spring break and will use the electric, she said while on vaca we could call any dealer to fix it. I will wait until we get home then give it to my dealer for repair. Of interesting note they said they were going to replace my entire cooling unit!!! I believe the correct words are any authorized service center as the Dometic phone jockey said it 2 or 3 times in our conversation. For those interested, she gave me this site to look up a place close to me.Authorized service centers Hope this helps someone.Re: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07 rsg33 wrote: I have a feeling it's what has been going on in these threads that Dometic was trying to reduce by not making this recall public until all the T's were crossed and the I's dotted. They wanted to eliminate the possibility of a riot and as this thread progresses, the anxiety level has risen. What is it going to be like in April? The figures stated above are not quite correct. .01% of 926877 units is 93, not 9269. That's 93 out of almost a million. From the Dometic disclosure: "Dometic estimates a potential maximum incident rate of 0.01% related to boiler fatigue cracks that leak and may result in a fire. There have been no incidents of injury or death related to the affected population of Dometic refrigerators." As far as I've been able to research, there have been two or three documented fires originating in the fridge area in the last few years, although, whether these were actually related to the recall is still unknown. Let's not jump the gun on this. Even though Dometic could have handled this better, I still have faith that things will sort themselves out. Dometic has far too much to lose by not taking care of business. The problem I have with this is the unknown factor. I take Dometic's figures the same as a politicians speech. Up until the last couple of months many thousands of repair facilities knew nothing of the problem and I wager there may be still thousands. In this thread how many people have stated they have replaced how many cooling unites or refrigerators? I think around 15 replacements. This seems like a high number when you look at the percentage of reports that have been made compared to the number of people that had knowledge of the defect from 1997. In other words how many unreported failures have there been. As far as injury's or deaths, we have no way of knowing that as no one seemed to be aware of the defect until 2005. so fire cause could have been attributed to something else. I think that 0.01% may at best be a guesstimate in Dometics favor'Re: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07 CrossCountryNomad wrote: ScenicCruiser wrote: You know, I get the feeling that everyone here is getting just a bit carried away. Measuring, trying to at least, voltages and impedances at varying temperatures, looking up the chimney, so to speak, and writing everyone but the pope. My plan is to just wait till after the date of the remediation passes, go to my repair shop, which by the way is an authorized Dometic repair center and they know nothing about it, and have them order a kit and do the repair. End of story. Mean time no high blood pressure or frazzled nerves. I agree with you completely. A lot of folks here are throwing parts at this 'hoping' to resolve the issue. What's the failure rate? Something like .01 percent of 926877 units? That's 9269 units from 1997 to 2003 or about 1544 units a year on average or 128 units a month on average. Pretty small chances of being affected... We mostly use our unit on AC for over 3 years now. It cools great, no yellow stuff. I would think something 'might' have happened by now. I'm still getting the 'fix' done, but just not losing any sleep over it. Interesting thinking. I wonder how Dometic failures match against the Ford/Firestone failures of a while back.:BRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Camping World also carries those dog bones. About 6 bucks in Ca.
