Vancouver island and Prince Rupert to Jasper.
Woohoo. Camping season is almost upon us. Last year we explored up to parksville and then over to Ucluelet and Tofino. This year our intention is to make a great circle and go from the Okanagan to the island, up the island and take the ferry up to Prince Rupert, then over to Prince George, then down through Barkerville etc and back to our home in the Okanagan via Kamloops. Alternatively if we are feeling up to it and weather is good we may carry on from Prince George to Jasper on 16 and then back thru Calgary and highway 1 to the Okanagan. Our question is what Interesting places can you suggest we visit and camp at between parksville and port hardy on the island. If you have suggestions for interesting spots on 16 from Prince Rupert to Prince George we’ll take those too but after that we are fairly familiar with the route. We have lots of time. Any suggestions are welcome. We have a small combo as per the picture so we can get in anywhere. Serviced or unserviced camping is fine. We have a growing list of places but are looking to add to the list. We are avid hikers and in good shape. Thanks in advance all.2KViews1like8CommentsBest route towing 29' to Isabella lake. 5 or 14 to 178.
Heading to headquarters campground north of Isabella lake next week. Towing my 29' 5th wheel toy hauler. Starting in rowland heights (near Anaheim, diamond bar, west covina). Should I take the 5 or 210 to the 14 to the 178 west? Or the 5 to the 178 in Bakersfield? I don't mind a longer drive if it is an easy tow route. From what I have researched, it sounds like the 14 to the 178 would be a easier drive. Thank you for your time. USA3KViews1like8CommentsAZ to WA avoiding steep hills
Hello. I am driving my RV from Tucson, AZ to Ocean Shores, WA. I have done this trip a few times, but never with a 31 ft travel trailer. I always take I-10 to I-5, a straight route from Arizona to Washington. I remember passing through steep hills in Siskiyou mountains (northern CA and southern Oregon) and I think was Angeles Forest near LA. Can you recommend the best routes to avoid steep hills for my travel from AZ to WA. I don't mind going a longer route, as long as I can avoid steep hills. As you can see, I am newly retired and new to RVing. Thank you in advance.8.9KViews1like36CommentsCottonwood Pass Colorado OK for TT?
We are going to vacation in the Taylor Creek area in several weeks and I'm trying to determine if I can pull a 23' TT with my F150 over cottonwood pass from Buena Vista. It would save loads of time and would be very scenic. But I don't want to get into a problem here. If anyone could give me some thoughts on this I would appreciate it. I apologize to any Indianans that might take offense to the following. In my experience, year in and year out, over decades, Indiana has the worst highway to bridge transitions in America. Worse than MI, worse than WI, worse than IL, worse than OH worse than anywhere. It is like the highway engineers do not talk to the bridge engineers and they guess where everything is going to line up. Invariably and without exception, on IN highways north/south bound or east/west bound, the bridge transitions are kidney, truck and trailer pounding rough. The approach to the bridges are designed like giant washboard ripples that get everything oscillating up and down driving the truck/trailer suspension system into the dampers on the frame. Then your momentarily airborne before hitting the bridge and bottoming everything out again. With adrenaline flowing I check the rearview mirror to see if anything major fell off. But before I get my eyes back on the road in front of me there a similar set of undulations before being launched into the air and landing on the highway. After a few hours of this Evel Knievel RVing it is time for an Aleve and to check for equipment failures (broken axles, springs, hangers, bolts or missing accessories from the top of the trailer). Not to mention checking the cabinets and shelves inside the trailer that have come open or failed completely. Come on INDOT, figure this out.4.9KViews1like26Comments
