Here is a nationwide traffic alert site submitted by a member. National Traffic and Road Closure Information Here are the DOT sites for 49 states. Many states have very well organized and user friendly sites giving not only traffic and road info but also weather, laws and rules and other information. Many also link to their state sites all of their major cities as well. It is January. For most of us there will be near on 100 days before we have wheels spinning again. Here is a game that Bermuda visitors would play with their pics of trips to Bermuda. Post a pic. One at a time to avoid confusion. Whoever identifies posts the next or defers to somebody else. If it is not identified in a 24hr (soak), either the poster identifies or somebody posts another. Try to make subjects fairly well known places. My idea, so I get to start. The first one is real easy.78KViews0likes586CommentsA year of planning for the perfect family trip!
There's another thread discussing the cycle of life that hits most of us right in the gut. I'm a 43 year old husband and father of two 8 year old boys. We've got the same dreams as many of you, to make memories with our families in the RV. I'm all too aware of how fast the kids are growing and recognize that my window of making these dreams a reality is at most about 8-9 years longer. We've spent our lives to this point being as "wise" as we can to prepare for the future. However, this philospohy of "windows" that are open for short periods has become real. You either "DO" something like this at a certain age, or it doesn't get done. In the last two years, I've gone back to school and am making a career change. I'm going to be a middle school teacher. There were many reasons for the change, one of which is freeing up summers for family time. Realistically, we should be able to a trip each summer that puts us on the road for weeks at a time. I think we would have a maximum time of 6 weeks, but that might change. We live in South Carolina and would like to have at least two of these trips. A southwest and a northwest one. We'd like the first one to be the southwest trip. I have been working on it on google maps and thought why not get the input of the EXPERTS! :) This thread is meant to be a tool for me to use over the next year. It will be busy at times and at times be shelved. If any of you are willing to work through this with me through the next year, please join in. Your experiences travelling the country would be so valuable. There's got to be a better way to collaborate with google maps, but I can't figure it out. It's not exactly user friendly. So, for now, here's a link and a quick screensnap of what I've got in mind so far. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=211628587478009914116.0004de6c8e9b3ecd4fb1b&msa=0&ll=37.788081,-89.384766&spn=27.533419,62.226563&iwloc=0004de6d42d43368b1d88 We aren't very interested in visiting urban areas, so I basically tried to tie together as many National Parks as I could. However, I know nothing about the roads themselves. I don't want to drive randomly, but certainly would prefer to be on a known scenic road rather than an interstate. **** I'VE USED UP ALL MY TIME THIS MORNING TO POST, BUT WILL FINISH THIS THOUGHT LATER TODAY21KViews0likes139CommentsAdvice needed-Western US summer trip
Hello all, We are planning our first big RV road trip and I need some help. We will be leaving from Central Florida in June, and have about 28-30 days total. We have traveled quite a bit in the past by car, but never pulled a trailer more than just around Florida. There are four of us, including 8 and 11 year old boys, plus a small dog. Our rig is a 2003 Excursion 7.3 PSD pulling a 2017 Keystone Sprinter, 39 feet long and approx. 9000 lbs. My wish list of places to visit include Austin Tx, Albuquerque NM, Grand Canyon, Moab UT and Zion UT. A coworker also suggested I visit Sedona AZ. But the more I look at it, the more I begin to wonder if I may have tried to do too much. BTW my truck runs fantastic, but does have 315k on the odo. I worry about mechanical issues (I'm planning to add airbags to the rear of the truck and a chip for more power). I also worry about the mountain grades out west. So, should I cut a few places off the list? I have been told by a few that the Grand Canyon is really only good for a few hours unless I am doing a long hike or rafting trip (which I won't be doing because of the kids). Where else should I visit, and any particular routing advice to make my life easier, especially in and out of Utah?? Thanks in advance!20KViews0likes94CommentsUTAH Hwy 89, 12 and 24

Hello, Have read a ton on here, but first post. I am new to RV'ing but got the last minute chance to take a two month trip - so heading out for a June/July trip west. My goal is to visit quite a few of the National parks and a few other places. I certainly realize we won't be able to get into the parks to stay but hoping we can stay nearby and drive in for the days. I am driving a 35' class A and pulling a 4-door Jeep and traveling with wife and 2 kids (8 & 10). I feel pretty comfortable with everything in our shakedown trips, but still a little nervous about mountain driving with RV and TOAD. Would welcome ANY advice on routes to take (less mountains the better since i'm new at this), places to go (not even the parks are set in stone at this point), and places to stay from this experienced group. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!!! We're heading out to Richfield, Utah area in a couple months. I'm wondering which road is in better shape, I-70 or I-80? It's only about 100 mile difference. I planing on I-70 thru the tunnels. Pulling a 45' 5th wheel with a dually.17KViews0likes14CommentsI10 vs I40
Hi folks, Please advise, in late March we'll be traveling/driving our MH class "A" from the LA area to Dallas TX for a family reunion pulling a Jeep Cherokee, I was told that I10 is a bit longer, but less hilly as you will, is that correct?, never drove that route, please note that, as a retirees, we are kind of new to the whole experience and appreciate all your input. God Bless, Gerard16KViews0likes27Comments
