Karaoke & Sing-along around Campfires

When we were tent camping, there will be several campsites with someone playing the guitar and other campers will mill around, uninvited, watching or singing along.

Now that we are into RVing, it seems protocol changed. We would hear a couple or more doing karaoke (with their karaoke systems) singing inside their RVs.

What changed? Of course, those in the tent camping are mostly young folks out to hit on someone pretty who comes along -- and I assume those in the RVs are rich old fogies. of the cranky "get off my lawn" kinds, LOL.:h

  • We were at a campground parked next to the Rec building. On Friday nights they had Karoke. Some of the worst singers I ever heard. I couldn't wait til it was over. There are enough bad singers that are professionals, this bunch was just awful. One of those things I will never understand.

Last summer we were in a nice little CG near Fort QuAppelle Saskatchewan. Wonderful group of people right across from us, one came over and said they are having a social event tonight, we may hear some sounds. I smiled and said Have Fun!! He then invited us to come over and join them if we want. So nice.

A little later out came a guitar, and other instruments. On came the music and everyone was having a good time around the campfire.

Nice to hear and see that happening. We didn't join them but sat under the awning in our chairs enjoying the festivities. Everyone was polite, not rowdy and at a reasonable time they packed it up and respected quiet time.
    I love stuff like that.

That's camping heaven for me. Seems contagious to see other campers having fun and will find yourself smiling from within -- even from watching and listening from afar.

Other, seemingly a paradox, camping in the total peace, solitude and silence -- like winter in Yosemite.

Unless you have a very large tent, you are going to be outside most all the time.
With RVs it is almost like living in a house and it seems most people are sitting inside in their recliner with A/C on, watching TV or a movie. And not a good idea for strangers to drop in and join you in your RV.
I agree a lot is lost in the second way of "camping". I love it outside, but I have to admit we are often guilty of the inside thing.

For the couples that we heard doing karaoke inside their RV, they are so good that I wish they are singing outside. Some folk songs by Don McLean, Simon Garfunkel, Bee Gees...

I'm sure some other campers would have loved to join or watch them had they choose to sing and brought their karaoke system outside. But then again, that's their choice.

Yeah, guilty ourselves of just staying inside being a little exhausted with the hiking and seeing places.
  • Wouldn't be me. I can't sing well and am never inside my TT when I can be outside.
