69 south to Nashville to Florida….

We plan on hitting the road from Michigan to make our trek south on either the 25th or 26th of December. Normally we take I-75 south but the construction coming back from Nashville in October was terrible thru ohio.

How is the construction on 69 thru Indiana…any areas I should avoid?

  • JT - If you decide to take this route, I'll be two days behind you...leaving on the 27th or 28th.

  • The other big bonus to staying on I65 to Montgomery is that you can avoid Atlanta. I don't know why but Atlanta is always white knuckle for me. Only place I have towed through that has intimidated me.
  • Tripalot made the suggestion I would agree with. That's the way we went last winter to Florida. Just stay on I-65 through Nashville down to Montgomery, AL. From there catch US231 down to I-10. US231 is an accessible 4 lane highway and a nice road. And if you're looking for a nice overnight stay check out Deer Run RV Park just north of Troy, AL. It's not expensive and take's Good Sam. It was like $27/night with FHUs, cable, and paved pads. It's right off 231. We dewinterized there last winter.

Depending upon where you're headed in Florida you can take US19 south off I-10 along the gulf. It's a nice easy 2 lane that goes through some rural Florida. You can make good time on it. Or you can take I-10 over to I-75.
  • WE came down I-75 in Ohio in early November and the only major construction was in Dayton. But that has been going on for the last eight years or so.
  • WE were on 69 in August and some construction north of Ft Wayne, but being in the country no problem. If you take I-24 to Chattanooga you will encounter Monteagle on your route. Going east it is about a 4 mile up hill 5% grade and 6 mile down hill with up to a 6% grade. Just take your time and watch your speed.

I'm confused. I75 does not go thru Nashville and I69 heads southwest. That's not the way to Florida. If i75 is not your choice, then I65 would be best.

From Michigan we take I-69 to 65 to Nashville….from Nashville head south to Chattanooga and then link up to I-75…….We are trying to avoid I-75 thru Ohio because in September in Ohio there must have been hundreds of miles of construction at various points and some of those lanes got really tight and a bit of white nuckle driving especially when next to semi tractors.
  • We use I-65 to go to Florida. Driving through Nashville is not a big deal. We go south to Montgomery and then take Hwy 231 to I-10 or one of the other options depending where in Florida you are going. Check your maps.
