75 north thru Cincinnati or 275 around?

We are wondering if it's smarter to take 75 straight through Cincinnati or take 275 around? We are traveling in a 43ft. MH towing a jeep. Won't be going through during normal traffic times.....which is the smarter route?
  • You might check with Ohio DOT. When we went through in June there was construction on both routes, and 275W was closed on a Saturday night.
  • We've gone through Cincinnati many times and usually took I-75 straight through. Yes, there are occasional backups, but as usual it depends on time of day. There's a lot of traffic on the KY side of the river too, but I-75 is wider there and in good shape.

What is your destination? If you're going anywhere west of I-75 (IN or western MI) I would definitely go I-275 to I-74 into IN toward Indy. If going to the east side of MI or northern OH then I-75 is best. I think I-275 is way out of the way just to avoid going through Cincinnati. Grit your teeth and do it!
  • I've lived in the Greater Cincinnati area all my life. We have 3 major expressways going thru Cincinnati. I71, I75 and I74. Rush hour is slow, but in less busy times you still have to deal with semis. They go through because its shorter. Just pick I71 or I75 and pray that there are no wrecks. Even I-275 has its share. And everybody slows down to look. If you do decide to take I-275 around, use I-275E. Its shorter.
  • We always go straight thru unless we hear about an accident on I-75 - listen to any of the local radio stations when you get within "ear" reach of them. They are really good about giving traffic info. You also might want to check about ballgame scheduling. That can foul it up real quick in the downtown area and I would avoid it around game starting or game ending times.
  • straight thru, and its always rush hour, sit back enjoy all the idiots cutting in and out, going no where.
  • We always go straight thru, even in rush traffic, only time had a problem is accident or sometimes on Fri afternoon going south. There is some construction, not bad 2/3 lane at 45 mph. Going around adds cosiderable time.
  • I've always gone straight through pulling our 5th wheel. It has backed up a bit before but it seemed to keep moving slowly at least. There's a long stretch of construction further north in Ohio that was more of a pain. It looked like a long term project, it's probably still there.
