- cgmartineExplorerOh no! For a minute there I thought I had hit a wrong key and I was back on the Harley-Davidson forum, where there seems to be a lot of hate and discontent by those biker wanna-be bad boys!!!
- pianotunaNomad IIIHi Briansue,
I offered the map in good faith and I did NOT go searching for it. It came as part of a web site that included 39 other maps of interest. I believe, that since some RV folks do travel to Mexico, it might help them do some research as to where it is safer to travel and visit.
Now, I'll just tell all of them to give you a private message so you can share your special knowledge of the cartels. - briansueExplorerHere is a direct Copy & Paste from the linked NY Times article. How hard did you have to look and go back so far in time to find this? It is about stuff that happened in 2007 - 2008 - 2009 - not that dates matter since the cartels have never had anything to do with RVing. News flash - it is now 2014!!

The Reach of Mexico's Drug Cartels
Mexican drug trafficking cartels “represent the greatest organized crime threat to the United States,” according to a recent Justice Department report. The cartels have waged increasingly violent battles with one another, as well as with the Mexican government, which began an aggressive crackdown in 2006
The poster says it is so people stay safe? Read the whole article and look at both maps - there is one of the US as well as one of Mexico. Is there a state in the US that does not have cartels?
We have traveled in Mexico for many years and have long heard the naysayers bad mouth Mexico. Are there dangers? Where are there no dangers?
This comes up on this forum every week it seems and this nonsense and those who post it are often allowed to go on with it. What has this got to do with RVing? Where is RVing mentioned by the NY Times? When will we read a true and factual story about cartels attacking RVers in any way, shape, or form? Haven't seen one yet. Though I must admit we recently did hear off friends of ours who were robbed in Mexico last year. But we also have friends in the US who have been robbed. Crime happens - everywhere!!! Can you be safe? Maybe if you live in a cave hidden away somewhere no one can find you.
We stay safe everywhere we go because we pay attention and we don't go places or do things that can get us in trouble. Is there any way to totally avoid the possibility of trouble? Nowhere I know of. - TequilaExplorerCratels have little, if any, effect on RV'ers, just as shootings in LA have little effect on people visiting Disneyland.
- qtla9111NomadThe circles are very big on the map which may lead someone to think that the whole area is invested with cockroaches.
OTOH, I wonder what the cartels map look like in the U.S.? Not being sarcastic, but if they are in 200 major U.S. cities the map must look pretty much the same. Hmm, I think we're all in deep do-do. - Talleyho69ModeratorAnd we'll wave at you as we go by!

Ah, nice! I'll wave the next time I'm passing through! :) - Talleyho69ModeratorWe live on the other Silver Strand, the surfing beach in Ventura County. We are there about 7 months a year, and traveling the rest of the time.
- pianotunaNomad IIIHi iron,
Don't get your panties in a knot. I was only offering information. I'm sure that some of the cartels want the tourist dollars, too.
The source for the map is the New York Times. Take your issues up with them, not me.
Since I full time in Canada, I'm unlike to make an 8400 kilometer trip to visit Mexico. (Oh, yeah that's a bit more than 5000 miles).ironworker025 wrote:
Dude did you at the date of this map you put up? Have you ever been to Mexico. I am in Mexico right now and sitting on the beach loving every sec of it. this has nothing to do with RVing and it looks like you are just running your mouth on a subject you know nothing about. I have traveled in all the areas that have circles and never had a problem. So please keep your maps to yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - EscargotExplorer

Ah, but Mexico is in the position that, with so few people coming down, we are losing our RV parks. That hurts.
I agree with you about California.
The map was VERY old-2008.
If you're still at the Silver Strand, we're neighbors.
I'm a few of miles north of the Coronado Bridge.
PS That the map is from 2008, and the article was posted in 2011, doesn't mean that it is totally irrelevant. For proof of this, reference the U.S.A.'s ongoing (and lost) 1970's "War on Drugs", or it's (also lost) "War on Poverty".
