- RE_ToddExplorerYep, 380 from San Antonio to Hwy 70 east. South 285 from Roswell to Carlsbad. Brantley Lake State park has nice sites, between Artesia and Carlsbad. The Owl Bar in San Antonio for Green chili cheese burgers and fries. Henry's BBQ in Artesia for BBQ!!
- kcinmoExplorerThank you all the great advice! We really appreciate it!! Thanks for RV Park in Carlsbad and burger recommendation in San Antonio also.
Happy Holidays!!
Kim - PenManExplorerAny of the routes others have provided will be fine assuming the recent snow has been cleared. Depending on where you are now, I would take the route thru San Antonio and stop for a burger at the Buckhorn or the Owl Cafe which is located about a block from the Buckhorn. Can't go wrong with either one for lunch. Enjoy the caverns.
- zmanmikeExplorerYou can take highway 60 (south of Belen) to hwy 285. Take 285 to Carlsbad. It's about 295 miles from Belen to Carlsbad.
Or as suggested above, hwy 380 south of Socorro to Roswell and to Carlsbad on hwy 285. About 284 miles.
At the turn off at I-25 and 380 you will be in San Antonio. There you will find Buckhorn Burgers, they've been on the Food Network for one of the best green chile burgers. Personally, they are ok. Good to try once.
In Socorro,NM ( right before San Antonio) there is a diner with the best potato and green chile soup. It's called El Camino. Has a 70's vibe to the diner. Great food.
Happy travels.
MM - BB_TXNomadWe went from Albuquerque to Carlsbad last June towing the 5er. We took US 380 from I-25 just south of Socoro to Roswell, then south on US 285 to Carlsbad. Actually we took a slight detour off US 380 to Ruidoso and spent a few nights before taking US 70 east to merge back with US 380 and on go Roswell. No problems with an RV on that route.
Stayed at the KOA north of Carlsbad. Only decent RV park we could find in the area.
