- profdant139Explorer IIJeff, one would think that someone at CalTrans has been told of this problem, and it's easy to fix. But the signs are still too little, too late, causing the unwary drivers to swerve over at the last second.

Thats an understatement! I KNOW it's coming up and still get caught
Second, as you approach Pasadena on the 210 north, stay to your right -- the signage for staying on the 210 north is really bad. - profdant139Explorer IITwo thoughts. First, cross check Google Maps with Sigalert. Google Maps often indicates bad congestion when it is not so bad.

From there if you are headed up the coast you can get in the 14 s over to 126. If heading to the Central Valley you can take the 138 over to the 5 and bypass all of the LA traffic. No matter what you do you will hit traffic on the 210. If it's not morning traffic into Pasadena, it's the heading home traffic on the 210 east bound heading into Santa Clarita. That sleepy little freeway isn't anymore
- Gonzo42ExplorerI agree with most of what is said here. I use the 210 regularly. I live next to it. I will use the truck lanes if they seem less crowded than the 5, especially up by Santa Clarita where the 5, 14, 210 confluence exists. Not so much from Riverside up to Pasadena.
You didn't mention your destination. From Santa Clarita north you get to the Grapevine and the Central Valley. If you use the 126, you can then get to the 101 and the coastal route just fine.
I use all of the above. Feel free to ask about any of it. - Check traffic on Google maps before you roll.
- LwiddisExplorer II"A follow up question or 2......... I know this is a vague almost unanswerable question, but if I make this drive mid-week around 9-10 am what sort of drive time am I looking at between Redlands and the 5? Also is it best to jump up to 210 that far east?"
God only knows on any given day particularly in western Pasadena where I210 splits with CA 134. Stay in the right lane, go slow and get ready to be cut off. Yes, 210 is better than alternatives...west or east. - mileshuffExplorerTruck lane isn't mandatory but I usually go that route as its less traffic.
Note that on the 210 LAPD will ticket you if you drive in anything other than the far right lane. Didn't matter that I moved over to pass slower traffic. Parts of 101 around Ventura or Oxnard are similar. - older_fossilExplorerIt make a big difference if you are towing or not. Without a toad, you can drive like a regular car. With a toad, you are subject to the same 55MPH and right lanes limits that trucks are.
And yes, the 210 after/before rush hours (roughly 10:00-2:00) is probably your best way to the I-5 north. - MarkTwainExplorer

Thanks for all your input!
Take the 210. Avoid the workers going to work in the morning between 7 to 10 am and the workers going home from 4 to 7 PM. Barring any accidents your drive time should be the normal time line depending how fast you drive.
