Cottonwood via Payson is a very good route. You'll have an 'up' into Payson and a 'down' to Cottonwood. We've done it often with a 40' MH.
I agree - that is a good route for you! Have done it a few time to/from Mesa -Sedona. - KampingKrisExplorerWe've been all over AZ in the last two months...
Gotta say that Lost Dutchman State Park is by far one of the prettiest so far... - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIFrom another post I thought you were in Quartzsite.
- RGar974417ExplorerFrom what I remember, that is a pretty good road. Dead Horse Ranch State Park is a nice base from which to visit Jerome,Ft Verde and Tuzigoot.
- mileshuffExplorer87 and 260 are very scenic.
87 is mostly 4 lane divided south of Payson.
There is a 6 mile 7% downhill grade near Mt. Ord into Sycamore Canyon.
There is a 10 mile 6% uphill grade from Rye to Payson.
North of Payson towards Pine 260 is 2 lane and a bit winding with some grades.
260 is mostly downhill to Cottonwood. - pigman1ExplorerOur preferred route is 60 west to 202 loop, north then west to I-17. As long as you're not running the route at drive time it's a very easy drive.
